Premier Dalton McGuinty is refusing to rule out Dalton Days -- mandatory unpaid leave for public workers -- as he looks for ways to cut government spending. That's funny... I can think of at least one place Dalton could have saved a few shekels.
During the recession of the early 1990s, the NDP government of Bob Rae tried to limit spending by mandating unpaid days off for civil-service workers.
The so-called "Rae Days" proved wildly unpopular with the unions that had helped bring the NDP to power.
Despite its controversial history in Ontario, McGuinty has passed up several opportunities to kill the idea of Dalton Days.
