So yesterday, Ontario Liberals...

...hinted at a belt-tightening budget, further squeezing the education and healthcare systems... geez, I wonder where the money went...

Ontario government ministries spent almost $390 million on consultants in 2007-08 -- on top of the funds that went to contractors through its agencies, boards and commissions like eHealth Ontario.

Miller said the FOI numbers do not include other government bodies that spend tax dollars, such as eHealth Ontario, which was recently criticized by the Auditor General for its use of high-priced consultants.

"It's outrageous," Miller said. "Now, we find out eHealth is not the biggest. Consumer Affairs is even bigger."
Meanwhile CTV & CBC continue to loudly howl about Consevative logos on prop cheques at photo-ops.

Wake up folks... and smell the propaganda.

I am at a loss of how to get people angry about government waste. I am starting to think that everytime a government rips us off we should all have to pay that money up front until those responsible can pay it back.

In this case 2 billion dollars divided by 9 million working Ontarians is $223 each.

If we each got docked $223 off our next paychecks (including those on welfare) to pay back the ripped off money then people would get angry.

McGuinty would have been a long distant bad memory by now.

What most people don't know is there are literally billions being spent in this country on various NGO's that have been created over the years either as some politician's pet project, or as a way to pay off supporters. These agencies have no legislative mandate and virtually no oversight, and simply exist as single line items in some department's budget that keeps getting renewed over and over.

It would be trivially easy for the Ontario Government to cut expenditures by a couple of billion with no impact on key services. There would of course be a lot of political hangers-on and paper pushers forced to collect EI or find real work.

well... i guess that is, in part, what i'm trying to accomplish here.

unfortunately, most people seem to not really care what happens beyond the confines of their own homes... that is, until they need dialysis, or chemotherapy... or a nursing home for an ailing parent.

One problem is that Tim Hudak is almost invisible in the MSM. My local rag is still writing regularly about Mike Harris. When Hudak calls for an inquiry into the eHealth scandal, it is all but ignored. I Billion wasted in the Ont. economy is a staggering sum.
Still Ontarians seem uminterested.

and, amazingly, the sheeple just seem to eat it up.

the sad truth is... you get the kind of government you deserve.

That's why I say neo, that in all seriousness we should adopt the method I mentioned earlier. We all have to pay for the government screwups eventually anyway, people may as well feel it right off.

The first time people got dinged 200 bucks off of their paycheck, with a line called "government waste" would be the last time.

Forget accountability commissioners. There'd be riots. As you say people need to feel the government they voted for directly.
