As early as May 2011, police in Nova Scotia were told Wortman had said he wanted to “kill a cop” and was feeling mentally unstable.

An officer safety bulletin, distributed by the Truro Police Service, said a police source had indicated Wortman was upset about a police investigation, had access to weapons and was having some “mental issues.”

An RCMP spokeswoman confirmed the police force received the bulletin, but Cpl. Jennifer Clarke said she couldn’t comment on how the Mounties responded, because the records were purged long ago.

Trier police confirmed that two people had died, with reports suggesting 10 others injured, including a child.  “People were thrown through the air” as a car drove into a pedestrianised shopping area at speed.

Local news reported that the number of dead was actually four, and that the child mentioned in other reports was among the dead, and named the number of injured at 30.

The defence’s star witness, Dr. Alexander Westphal is set to testify today at the trial of the man who killed 10 people in Toronto’s van attack.

He is expected to say Alek Minassian is not criminally responsible for his actions on April 23, 2018, due to autism spectrum disorder.

Last week, Westphal refused to testify if court didn’t give in to his demands to seal his videotaped interviews with Minassian and play the clips to court in secret.

Mitchell Lapa, 48, from Winnipeg, is a relative of the family and was not invited into the home, police say. Lapa is the brother of Loretta Traynor, according to an online obituary posted in 2019 for their father.
