Or, hush my politically-incorrect mouth...

...is it just possible... these folks could be failing the rest of us?[*]

I know its a long shot but what if the natives just stop committing crimes, dealing drugs, stealing etc. Maybe stop drinking themselves into oblivion and beating up their wives, husbands or children. I was raised in a shack at the end of a long gravel road in northern BC. I've managed to stay out of jail for all these 49 years. Its not really that hard.

oh, c'mon... everybody knows that... in fuzzy-bunny politically-correct canada, anyway... "personal responsibility" is an outdated concept.

these days... it's always somebody else's fault.

get in the spirit, my friend... embrace your inner victim.

Aboriginal peoples are at a disadvantage from the onset, because of a societal infrastructure awarded to them by succeeding governments in what amounts to a sense of entitlement based of historic guilt. This in turn fosters an environment where criminal elements and addictions flourish, family concepts dissolve, and generational ruts continue. If the playing field were levelled in all aspects, and all Canadians were truly EQUAL, with no perks designed for any groups, then the human initiative and mutual respect would kick in for the benefit of all. Prison populations, most noticeably native, would certainly dissipate.

I'm shocked Tripper that you would even hint at equality and responsibility, especially on a family oriented blog.

SHAME!

"tripper523 says... because of a societal infrastructure awarded to them by succeeding governments in what amounts to a sense of entitlement based of historic guilt."

and, every time that any federal government, whatever its political stripe, has tried to reform the paternalistic "indian act" that places all the financial & political power in the hands of a select few aboriginal heavies and their handpicked cronies... the native communities go apeshit about racism.

but what about the horrendous rates of substance abuse, domestic violence & appalling child mortality in these nightmare communities?

every year 11 billion dollars gets pounded down a black hole to supposedly better the reserves... to absolutely no effect.

this is about corruption and widespread lawlessness within the native reservation systems themselves.

and, now... we even have special aboriginal prisons. but things just keep getting worse, don't they?

call me crazy... how about we just go to one people... one law?

i'd also like to thank pat for offering up a nasty, small-minded troll... you know, instead of any actual proposals to remedy the situation.

thank goodness for the compassionate, intellectual left.
