Authorities initially said they killed the major after he took part in a shooting rampage that left about a dozen colleagues dead at the Central Texas base. Tonight, inexplicably, they are saying that Hasan was wounded but survived. So, apparently... he decided to murder his brothers-in-arms instead.
Hasan worked at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in the nation's capital for six years before being transferred to Texas in July. He was going to be sent into a combat zone overseas soon and didn't want to go, relatives and others said.
Despite initial reports that he had been killed, Hasan is recovering in hospital.
The commander of the Fort Hood Lt. Gen. Bob Cone told NBC's TODAY on Friday that Hasan was in a "stable condition." He said he would be interrogated as soon as possible.**********
Cone also said he heard first-hand accounts that Hassan shouted "Allah Akbar," which means "God is Great" in Arabic, as he opened fire at the Soldier Readiness Center at Fort Hood.
LAST WORD: Jihadi brought to a shuddering stop...
...by a frail, inferior chattel...
