Most Canadians not quite ready...

...to turn over levers of power to wild-ass teenage vandals... or Quebec...

A Harris-Decima survey for The Canadian Press says two-thirds of people polled felt the police response was appropriate, while about one in five said it was inappropriate.

The poll indicates a majority in all regions and across all groups felt the police response in Toronto was appropriate.

However, younger Canadians and those in Quebec were most likely to say it was inappropriate.
Yeah... I'm shocked.

Not this "younger Canadian"!

I guess I'm a heartless b*st*rd:

"If a man is young and conservative, he has no heart. If he's old and socialist, he has no brain." - author unknown, but attributed to Sir Winston Churchill.

any thinking person who watched the looting & burning on tv would have to say...

"less tears... more tear gas"

With all the predictions of protester violence well before the first fence went up anyone that went there had to expect that they could very easily be hurt attacked or traumatized either by rioting protesters or the police. That the brainless twits that went to the protest are now all in a dither because something happened to them just shows how brainless they are.

sorry, bob... no such thing as personal responsibility any more.

it's always somebody else's fault.

But the looters and burners weren't the ones arrested or otherwise harrassed, neo...

Well you shouldn't have let them hide under your skirt Katie. The crowd that cheered on these ass-holes were just as guilty as they were.So when they went and hid in the crowd of peaceful protesters, they should have been pointed out to the police instead of hiding them.

the problem is the question. inappropriate could mean the police went too far or did not go far enough.
during my riot training with 2 Horse (I was a lowly militia Gunner)in preparation for the Montreal Olympics we were trained for snatch squads where a person in the crowd would be targeted (a leader if possible but any one who would be readily identified) and a flying squad would exit the line, grab the target and bring him back behind the line for pummeling. according to the experts, the next time the line parted for a sally by the flying squad great swaths of the rioters would turn tail rather than be grabbed for a pummeling.
rule one with a riot, if you don't nip it in the bud, it gets out of hand really quick. i think the police response was inappropriate: i.e they did not pummel the rioters on Saturday!

"bertie says... The crowd that cheered on these ass-holes were just as guilty as they were."

agreed... you voluntarily place yourself in a potential battle zone... you've just gotta take your lumps.

you side with the looters... you should take the full weight of that too.

my only complaint with this whole thing... as kathy points out... is that not enough of the right people got thumped & locked up.
