I say we start with airstrikes
Just spitballin' here... but I'm thinking lightly armed "Peacekeepers" in baby-blue helmets just ain't gonna be enough...
-- NIANGARA, Congo -- The young woman with the hacked-off lips and stitches where one ear used to be shakes her head when asked why rebels did this to her, then whispers that the attackers who came from across the river were angry because she kept crying for mercy and calling on God for help. But hey... whaddaya know... the U.N. disagrees...
The U.N. peacekeepers "provide stability, they provide security for humanitarians (workers) they provide protection for civilians," U.N. humanitarian chief John Holmes said.I dunno, John... let's ask a Tutsi or two about that... or maybe the woman above.
Genocide, endemic disease, ever-present corruption.
If Africa was a house, I'd say tear the whole thing down... and start over.

Do we have any strategic interests in the Congo? If not, why go?
Also as I recall hearing during my time in the Canadian Forces, some of the troops sent there in the early to mid 60's were killed and eaten by the peaceloving natives.

The UN peacekeepers only work, when the parties involved want peace. These nutbars do not want peace, hence there is no need to go.
