'Cause Marci said so!

Turning lemons into lemonade... or maybe water into wine...

"If I were him, and had been falsely called a Baptist minister in a book, I promise you I would not stop lording it over all my friends, insisting that they call me The Reverend Ezra."
Oh, c'mon now... the Toronto Star just loved this book.

I hate to say it, but I think I need to buy McDonald's book.

What are the exact words she uses to claim that Klees was a Baptist minister and Kenney was Day's chief of staff?

Klees's official biography claims that he studied theology.

He is described as "a former Baptist Minister" in this "pro life, pro family" website.

The Windsor Star (March 20, 2000, p.A1) referred to him as "A one-time preacher and a graduate of the Toronto Baptist Seminary,"

***

I'm not sure if Kenney was "chief of staff", but in Ezra Levant's post, "chief of staff" seems to be synonymous with "leadership campaign boss"...

The National Post made reference to: "Jason Kenney, the Alliance revenue critic who chaired Mr. Day's campaign," on July 26, 2000.

And again on 7 November 2000:"Jason Kenney, the national campaign co-chair and an Alliance MP"

From the Vancouver Sun, 10 July 2001: "- Jason Kenney. Day's leadership campaign manager and most vocal supporter, Kenney was the big winner among Alliance MPs when the new regime took power. He replaced Monte Solberg as finance critic and co-chaired the party's campaign in the last federal election."

Edmonton Journal, 10 July 2000: "Jason Kenney, Day's campaign chair"

In an earlier version of Ezra Levant's post, there was another line about Klees: "And that he [Kenney] introduced a bill to certify a particular Christian college? No? Neither did Klees!"

This line is nowhere to be found now, though you might catch a glimpse of it for a while on Google's cache: http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&client=safari&rls=en&q=site%3Aezralevant.com+%22introduced+a+bill+to+certify+a+particular+Christian+college%3F+%22&aq=f&aqi=&aql=f&oq=&gs_rfai=

Or places where it may have been cross posted:
e.g., http://squaremilewife.blogspot.com/2010/05/gospel-of-marci.html

Perhaps it was removed because of this:

I haven't said anything to Ezra Levant.
To be honest, I felt strange emailing him/commenting as a random person myself, having just seen him on TV. I'll get over it.

Though in terms of the Canada Christian College thing, he seems to have removed evidence of the error already. And I'm not entirely sure about the Kenney-as-chief-of-staff issue. I want to read McDonald's book to be sure.

As for the "pesky fact" you mention, the Star has already corrected the article, and put a note at the top telling anyone who reads it, before they read it, that the error was there. That seems fairly transparent; the way things should be.

McDonald claims that the error (labeling the Canadian Constitution Foundation as a "Christian advocacy group") was not reflected in the book itself, where it was referred to as a "legal advocacy group." An excerpt from the book, along with information about an exchange between McDonald and some critics is here... But as I said, I would want to see the book itself, for myself. The website just linked to is obviously partisan. (Though I'm sure you would agree that partisan is not necessarily wrong... though perhaps you'd think it all depends on which side you are partial towards... But I digress).

For the record: I often look into leftist claims too, if something seems amiss. I'm probably as likely if not more likely to look into something I agree with than vice versa, if only because I hate being wrong.

don't buy the book, borrow it from a library. Or peruse it at a book store.
