Some days you eat the Bear...

...some days the Bear eats you...

Ten pirates were detained and one pirate was killed, the Russian state news agency ITAR-Tass cited Vladimir Markin as saying. Markin is the spokesman for Russia's Investigative Committee. There are wounded pirates, he said without giving details.
Yeah... I bet there are. Hey, maybe the Moscow Human Rights commission can look into this one.
Russian officials were preparing for the pirates to be delivered to Moscow to face criminal charges, Markin said.
Hmmm... a Russian jail... I think I'd rather face a firing squad.

Just spitballing here, but the Somali pirates... is it merely a coincidence that most Somalis are of an Islamic religious persuasion... in other words, is this a terrorism on the seas thing?

Every noticed how, when nationals of many different countries were being kidnapped in Lebanon in the 80s, there was only ONE case of Russians being swiped?

Apparently, the KGB were very...persuasive.

i'm gonna go out on a limb here and venture that the russians are not quite as forgiving of "cultural pecadilloes" as we, or the euroweenies, seem to be.

whaddaya wanna bet the pirates give russian-flagged vessels a wide berth from this point on?
