sorry, frances... have to disagree.

think about it... the reports are saying young caster is a hermaphrodite.

is it possible that anyone on the olympic games fast-track wouldn't be aware of having this condition?

seems to me this is likely either outright cheating... or willful ignorance.

if caster is genetically a male... then the appropriate governing bodies have no choice but to strip him/her of his/her medals.

Frances said...: Given Caster is only 18, yes, it is possible. Apparently the female bits lacking are internal; so externally whats to tell. The issue would be periods; some girls are naturally delayed in having same, while certain athletes find their periods suppressed because of extreme training and/or dieting. So Castor might well just think of herself as not totally typical, but still female.

Any fraud, if such, would have been perpetrated by the people surrounding her. You don't get to this level without coaches, trainers, etc., who - as adults - would be better equipped to observe and understand the anomalies.

Regardless, it is still a tragedy for Caster as a 'normal' life as a person of either sex is not possible.; 2:44 PM, September 11, 2009

as for labelling this a tragedy... casper seems to be coping rather well so far.

at the risk of sounding like a quibbler... for a little perspective on tragic circumstances... i suggest taking a stroll through the children's cancer ward of any large urban hospital.

trust me... 10 minutes in and you don't feel truly blessed by comparison... there really is something horribly wrong with your life.
