Whatever Ignatieff promised them...

...it's not working.

-- TORONTO -- A crowd of thousands of Tamil-Canadians has shut down the intersection at Yonge and Dundas Sts. to protest the bloody civil war in Sri Lanka.

As of 9 p.m. any in the crowd are sitting in the streets, despite police pleas for them to keep moving. The demonstrators say they will stay put until they hear from the federal government.
That's funny... CTV skipped over the part about them fighting with the cops.

FROM THE COMMENTS:
"I say find out who's organizing this campaign and send them a bill for the whole shebang. Police, ambulance, fire dept, city services and clean up. Hit em in the wallet where it hurts."
And...

The protest started outside the U.S. Consulate on University Ave. but tensions boiled over early Friday evening when 2,000 demonstrators told police they wanted to head to Yonge and Dundas Square.

Toronto police told them no, but protestors, who were standing behind barricades began scuffling with officers.
So now they are trying to shut down the heart of the city. And now not only are they ignoring police directions, but becoming aggressive with the police. What will Iggy use to placate them THIS time? What about the next time? Bueller? BUELLER?!

I realize the powers that be are absolutley terrified to risk another Ipperwash to the point they are paralysed with indecision, but how much further are they going to allow this to escalate!? What kind of country is this where a major city can be held hostage and the police threatened directly, but NOTHING is done to stop it?

If they escalate their next protest further, they need to deploy soldiers. Enough is enough. Time to end this nonsense - now

Imagine what would happen if Pro-Life demonstrators used the same tactics...

That's EXACTLY what they should do.

The Tamil gander has shown all other demonstrating geese how to play the authorities.

Let the chaos begin

The Toronto Star owns a 1/4 of CTV so don't expect any criticism of the Tamils from them.

the police will have their battons and ater hoses out in full steam.

If the liberals had supported the ANTI-TERRORIST ACT BILL many of these people who are fying terrorist flags will not occure.

don't expect anything to happen here unless chief bill blair is ready to defy his political masters.

premier mcslippery ceded caledonia to homegrown terrorists three years ago... no reason he'd act differently here. in dalton's socialist paradise, there's truly no such thing as a bad boy.

and his blondeness mayor miller will disband the police force before he takes action against a large municipal voting bloc.

Well well well...

Now a Buddhist temple has caught fire mysteriously...

Let the peaceful protests continue...

What a bunch of wimps we have in the local administration.

Or maybe they aren't wimps .. they just know the way their electoral bread is buttered.

"The Mayor says the Tamils “have an absolute right to make their concerns known and to protest.”

Remember those words: “An absolute right.”

This from a Mayor who would deny people the right to bottled water, dandelion-free lawns, competitive mass transit, and hundreds of other things.

Did anybody see the protest at the hospital in the niagra region yesterday? They arrested the head doctor of the hospital because he kicked at the police car as it passed. Then they arrested another guy for lighting a piece of paper on fire and then arrested anther for SITTING IN FRONT OF A POLICE CAR AND NOT LETTING IT LEAVE. I guess they should have just blocked the entire highway off and they would have been okay? Arrested for lighting a paper on fire? Didn't the natives light the road, cars, a bridge on fire last year and there were no arrests? What a difference the colour of your skin makes in this country when dealing with the police. Isn't that racism?

I still don't get the problem?
At the G20 in London the police simply cordoned off the area where the protesters wanted to be and they kept them there, and kept them there for hours and hours i.e. long after they wanted to go home, it was not so much fun for them then

I say find out who's organizing this campaign and send them a bill for the whole shebang. Police, ambulance, fire dept, city services and clean up. Hit em in the wallet where it hurts. The LTTE is known for extorting funds from it's people to support the war, so let's divert some of those funds back to the community they have so outrageously inconvenienced.

The fighting is almost over in Sri Lanka, so the Tamils ought to be happy, they can go home now.
