* well, sean... i'm pretty sure "childrens aid" would have something to say about surgically implanting devices in a kid, but hey... knock yourself out.
I know the implant idea is facing a lot of criticism. The company in the states that designed it says they are about the size of a grain of rice. So some sort of charm or necklace might be more acceptable. Trouble is since they were designed to run off body heat charging it would be an issue that way. I can't see why Canada can contribute to the shuttle program the way it has, and not be able to do something like this.
of course, as mentioned above... the idea of implantable tracking devices is still... with justification imho... a pretty controversial idea.

"Citing the concerns voiced by privacy advocates that government use of such devices could lead to "function creep," Cochrane added, "How much longer before implants are mandatory by law for all American citizens, and those in the rest of the world?" --
yes it is controversial. But mandatory? I dont think so. As an option for parents. I think it should be. And they can be removed if desired when the child turns (?). Privacy rights? Children do not have those rights. And really, is the Gov gonna watch my 4 year old? Besides, they dont need to be monitored. Only in emergency.
I think there is a big difference between taxes to pay for services, and forcing everyone to take a shot to get chipped. And to what purpose? What benefit could they possibly get from it? weigh the irrational fear of that against Victoria Stafford having one. And knowing where she was immediately after not returning home from school. Or they boy in Barrie that froze to death after running away from home.
Ok, and the boy that froze to death in Barrie. Parents fault too? What about autisitc chidren? Wander away on their own, sleepwalking? Parents fault too? If everyone were as good a parent as you then we'd have no need for Amber Alerts then right?
Thing is Sean is if these devices become very popular than the abductor a-wipes will be carving them out of kids with a knife... or worse.
Still it is an interesting option.
Anyway I am not convince of the death penalty only because government screws everything up and we already have enough folks who sat with life sentences who were wrongly convicted.
Still I consider it sensible to use the death penalty if irrefutable evidence can be provided of the crime, ie: Bernardo's videos. I trust not even the government could screw that up. Oh wait, didn't Homolka get released... ;)
Murderers often serve little time if they're caught. Executing them would demonstrate our moral commitment to defending our society, we don't execute them anymore because left-leaning people believe our society is indefensible.
The Left-leaning would prefer our society to be a more authoritarian utopia where they would tell you exactly what you are allowed to think, eat, do, feel, be...etc.
Microchipping children is Orwellian and unnecessary, it's hard to believe that some people consider this a serious option. Especially when there are better alternatives such as the execution of pedophiles.
Thousands of criminals are released into our society every year, if anyone were to be microchipped, surely they qualify.

I'll volunteer to be the hangman on these two Neo.
In fact, i'd pay money to be the guy who pulls the switch.

apparently... according to this cnews poll anyway, you've got plenty of company.
*
Take that a step further, if we can kill people then surely we can GPS our kids.
*
well, sean... if your kid has a cellphone... you already have that capability.
you can turn it on this morning... it's just a monthly fee away.
*
cellphones can be lost, stolen, or tossed in the case of an abduction.
