Liberal MP Ruby Dhalla is trying to block DVD sales of a Bollywood-style movie she co-starred in before her election to Parliament.**********
The politician, who represents Brampton-Springdale, claims Kyon Kis Liye "Why? And for Whom?" plus posters and photos for the low-budget 2003 Hamilton-made film were "doctored." She does not deny appearing in the movie.

Why? And for Whom? -- is a six-year-old Hindi film that tells of a man poisoning his wife to collect insurance.

Ruby should celebrate her movie career - there is no such thing as bad publicity. Take those famous examples of Ronald Regan, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Al Franken, Shirley Temple - bad movies do not limit your ability to be sucessful in politics. Enjoy the moment and be proud.

maybe she's afraid the entire conservative caucus is gonna stand up in the legislature and break into one of the numbers from the film.
i'd pay to see that.

I have been told the camera adds 10 pounds, looks like a Bollywood camera adds a considerable more.
Might there be some sequals in the works....."Slumdog Libranos" or "Catmandu" starring Rubi and WK or how about 'The Return of Count Igor" with you know who......

The film producer Charanjit (Chico) Sihra, who owns an autobody shop in Hamilton, said Dhalla signed a distribution waiver and was paid $2,000.
Sihra — who met Dhalla at a fashion show in 1993 shortly after she placed second in the Miss India Canada pageant — said he doesn't know what all the fuss is about.
"She wanted to be in a Bollywood film," Sihra said. "She had a passion for the movie, but she's a politician now and she doesn't want the DVD of the film released."
Dhalla's mother was on set every day of filming and there is no nudity or sex in the movie.

Thank you for confirming that she is lying about signing the paperwork. You can't get residuals unless you have signed the papers.
I don't know why Ruby would be so upset about this film. Who cares what she did before she got elected. If her constituents still support her that's all that matters. Besides, if this is the worst episode in her past history, that puts her a mile ahead of most of the inhabitants of the House of Commons.
On top of that, she looks damn good to me.
She's a Liberal, which I hate. But she's smokin' hot, which I like.
So I'm all conflicted, though I still think Guergis gives this woman a run for her money.
Sigh.

quality aside... by taking this to court... ms. dhalla has guaranteed this little ditty will go from a few convenience store bargain bins... to a much larger demographic.
the guy who made this obscure screen gem couldn't have dreamed he'd get absolutely gratis coast to coast media publicity.
like her librano colleagues, ruby obviously isn't familiar with the "law of unintended consequences".
