Hey nanny, how about shin pads so I don't fall down going to work.Anti-tazering drinking clothes, bubble wrap walking suits in case you get hit by a car.Lets get Dolltoid on it, he'll ban ski slopes.
Yeah, I have a problem with paternalistic laws like this as well... Not just this hogwash, but bicycle helmet laws, seatbelt laws, etc. The justification would be that since society has to pay the medical bills, society has the right to legislate safety of its members.
The government has no right making personal decisions for you. It implies ownership of your person by the government. When we handed our responsibility for healthcare over to the government it was not implicit that the government could now make lifestyle decisions on our behalf.
Nobody seemed to whine too much when the Liberal decided we didn't need handguns jd124, other than the owners.Of course it was because of public safety, you know, people were getting injured & killed.Bet you didn't know that more people are killed & injured by ladders in North America, than by guns.and very few people are shot with legally owned firearms.
*"pearce says... The justification would be that since society has to pay the medical bills, society has the right to legislate safety of its members."so pearce... how about we start by sterilising alcoholics so that we don't have the horrible burden of fas children causing lifelong societal mayhem. i'm sure the aboriginal community would be on board with that.ditto people with mental illness.in fact, while we're at it, we could ban alcohol, tobacco, fast food... rollerblading, bike riding etc., etc.where do we draw the line?*
Neo Conservative, haven't you been paying attention? We let our leftist nanny state bureaucratic betters draw that line for us. It's easy and doesn't require any of that scary personal responsibility.
*"jbh says... It's easy and doesn't require any of that scary personal responsibility."that's it isn't it? it's that "institutional mentality" that keeps all the gomers going back to prison.and all you have to do is listen to big mother.*
Gotta love the knee jerk condescending tone. Note I said "I have a problem with paternalistic laws like this." That is just the justification that is inevitably given. I think it's bullshit too.
*"pearce says... I think it's bullshit too."then we're on the same page.and pearce, while i abhor the nanny-state mentality that is gutting the very fabric of this country... i should mention i wear a helmet when i go skating with my son's class.as would, i'm guessing, if she could turn back the clock... natasha richardson.wheels within wheels, huh?*
