The Puffin King -- A Field Guide

iggytales

Finally, though, destiny wove its predestined web. Mr. Ignatieff became Liberal Party Leader without a single vote being cast, very possibly a first in the long history of democracy.

From there on up it's been downhill all the way.

Soon the Ignatieff Liberals were being embraced by the same 25 per cent of the voters even Stéphane Dion couldn’t alienate.

But only fanatical Liberals – a dying breed, alas – can really be surprised. After four years, it's hard to see why Mr. Ignatieff has bothered at all.

He appears to stand for nothing except the centre, wherever and whatever that is.

So we are the "unpalatable tory hordes" eh? And, John Baird is a wild dog alongwith with the PM's other wild dogs.

Mad me laugh actually. And the comment from Sault Boy is hilarous:

quote:

Al Bore "Who's the old hag in the back row?"
----------------------------------
That's Justin Trudeau. I've always said there is something not quite right about that boy.

poor iggy... he demeaned himself by actually riding on a bus, shaking plebeian hands... and, unbelievably... drank a beer for the press... and his numbers are still in the crapper.

i just wanna know... how many flutes of 'moet & chandon' is he gonna have to toss back... to get that common, middle-class taint outta his patrician mouth?

They always do shots of Iggy's smiling face so you can't see how few people there actually are at these events versus around 1,000 who showed up for PM Harper's visit to a B.B.Q. in the West Island of Montreal.

By the way did anyone see anything about this event in the Globe and Mail?

it just makes me laugh.

First of all...

"“ After four years, it's hard to see why Mr. Ignatieff has bothered at all. He appears to stand for nothing except the centre, wherever and whatever that is. ”"

Anyone, who knows anything about Canadian politics, knows that the leader that is able to form a government and rule as a centrist, will be successful in getting re-elected, several times likely.

That's why Harper, will never do what Cretien did. This isn't a judgement on either party leader, just an obvious observation.

Harper is to busy pushing a further to the right agenda thinking that's what Canadians want. And his followers seem to think this too. It's destined to fail at some point, and we'll end up with someone like Ignatief as a result.

Mark my words.

Regardless of all the staged photo ops of the plaid shirt I just remember him watching a hockey game in a suit and tie with his wife dressed to the nines holding a glass of wine. That is the real iggy.

is that really different than Harper? Or, Layton for that matter?

All 3 are useless stuffed shirts that most Canadians clearly dislike. Harper has made a couple attempts at humanizing himself, but really it's a matter of bias, and opinion to say who has done it relatively ok this week, and not the next.

"anon says... pushing a further to the right agenda"

you mean, instead of hopping on a bus... and posing for awkwardly staged pictures drinking beer & bbq'ing (i'm guessing for the first time in his life) in a blatant attempt to recast himself as a man of the people?

hey, who was it that said...

“Nothing is personal in politics, because politics is theater. It is part of the job to pretend to have emotions that you do not actually feel.”

it's like iggy screaming about bringing the troops home from afghanistan... a mission they were sent on by the fiberal government of the day.

the question should be... is there anyone iggy wouldn't pander to... to be prime minister?

at least with stephen harper... what you see, is what you get.

oh come on neo.

There's no difference between the "theatre" of Iggy or Harper. It's simply your bias that makes you fall for the Harper show.

No different than the "Iggy-ites" swooning for his BBQ sideshow.

Like who like, but trying to say it's different for Harper is, silly.

funnily enough, rex murphy weighed in on that very subject...
-
"Stephen Harper and Michael Ignatieff have a fair bit in common. Harper is, if such is possible, even less a natural politician than Ignatieff. Though he husbands a finite charm, he is not at ease or dextrous with those Tobinesque skills of ready communication, of self-projection when among strangers."

"But Mr. Harper has by force of will and diligence acquired some of those necessary arts. He has bent to the task and probably, to his surprise, learned to like what he thought he’d dread."

-
but, no... sorry, nonny... to my mind, iggy's the bigger poseur.
