Your signature cultural delicacy is...

...french fries slathered in gravy & cheese curd... don't be too surprised your collective IQ starts to slide...

A shade under 40 per cent of boys in Quebec drop out of high school in their teens, a rate that is among the highest in the Western world, according to statistics compiled by the Paris-based Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development.

There are obvious consequences on the province's unemployment rate (more than 20 per cent of dropouts are jobless) and literacy (it's estimated as many as a million Quebeckers are functionally illiterate).

“Boys just don't really seem to fit all that well in our system," said Anne Lessard, a University of Sherbrooke education professor who studies dropouts.

It's kind of hard to find a job outside Quebec when you can't speak or write En Eglish.

Just being honest said...

Well that's your problem right there. Education professors and ministry eggheads have been tailoring the system to fit students rather than telling them to STFU, listen and work harder. Algebra and grammar are difficult. They require time and effort and no amount of warm'n'fuzzy-learn at your own pace-proficiency versus competency new age nonsense will change that. As long as we have sociologists and psychologists writing the curriculum, our schools will turn out ecologically aware, wellness oriented, globally minded illiterates.

Oh, and poutine has nothing to do with it. Ontarians have not had their culture sullied by that particular delicacy but still seem to have a “. . . just don't really seem to fit all that well in our system," problem. Ask the folks at the africentric school in Toronto.

well, if you want to compare the folks of quebec with arab muslims you will have to credit them with an iq in the low 80's. that would be bloody sad.

Does that number include the functional illiterates from Muslim countries that Quebec is so fond of importing?

Where does that rate on the bell curve?

Many critics of today's educational system call it feminized. Add to that political correctness, and falling all over for immigrants, minorities and the flavour of the month basketcase and where do young men fit on the priority list?? Well down the bottom I'd say. (real conservative)
