Pre-election Pop Quiz

What Canadian political party has the political will to deal with this increasingly worrisome issue?

Fees to reach Canada range from US$20,000 to $60,000, with down payments of about 10 per cent, and estimated annual profits of US$10-billion, according to the RCMP.

Smugglers force migrants to pay off debts incurred as a result of their transportation, and benefit from the relatively low risk of detection, prosecution, and arrest – especially compared with other forms of organized crime.
Remember... friends don't let friends vote Liberal.

don't tell us, let me guess.

Harper needs a majority before he can fix anything right?

The last 4 years don't count.

If he gets a majority, will it still be the liberals fault, even after -another- 4 years??

Anonymous, please tell us how a minority Conservative govt could make the necessary changes in a minority situation, considering that with no natural allies, the other parties combined would vote them down?

A Conservative majority will be the smack in the face wake up call for sleepy leftists who have done their best to ruin this country.

Have the conservatives brought forth the full changes needed and been voted down?

oh. And for once the national post nails it on the head.

Does this sound like a government looking to accomplish anything?

yep. Right on the head. You might be a conservative, that's fine, but this conservative government, is a farce, including, it's leader.

Anon, Liberals have been clear on their views on immigration since day one. They favour any and all kinds of immigration because they convert into Liberal voters looking for handouts. (real conservative)

wasn't one of the first things that Harper did when taking power was cutting the immigrant landing fee?

It seems to me, there's lip service, and then there's the desire to connect with the "immigrant vote"...

I'm afraid I would have to agree with the anons this time around. Harper is just coasting. If we did like the Australians and put them in detention camps somewhere very unpleasant (Nunavut perhaps?) until we've sorted it all out, maybe "immigration" to Canada wouldn't be so attractive. The Canadian public is very much opposed to these illegals. The CBC could squeal all they want. No way would the Libdipperbloc force an election.

It is up to you to decide and no other;
All I know is that the opposition parties show no interest in Canada.

Charter and rights and freedom according to some jerk judges said that the charter and rights and freedom is also etended to outsiders meaning anyone from another country can waltz in here claiming refugee status.

PM tried to change the rules by instituting tougher laws but, the opposition are up at arms that he is preventing refugees from entering canada.
I guess from the opposition parties reation that they need to keep the immigration borders open to anyone so the the tough immigration bill brought in Jason Kenney was not acceptable by the opposition parties unless, the bill was watered down to bare minimum.
PM faces three parties that all support terrorist groups.
I remember when the prime minister re introduced the liberals' own bill on Anti-Terrorist Act Bill, strangely enough it was only the conservative party that voted for the bill. The libs, ndp, and the bloc couldn't have been bothered to vote for the bill. naturally, I am not surprised about the watered down Kenney's immigration bill.

The only way for any of us to know whether the PM is the PM to continue to run the country or the three opposition parties and their special groups, is left up to you.

The media will see to it that the opposition parties end up running this country. Three PMS all want a piece of the pie for their own.
Duceppe might demand $279BILLION to bail out Quebec out of its debts;
Layton wants big businesses even though people work there, to pay for the little guy- his intentions also shut down free-trade.
If you have a big business doing very well and the little guy outside somewhere does have a job or money, you with your business will have to contribute that is the socialist marxist way of life.
Canada will become like Greece because Layton and Duceppe belong to the unions and, we all know the demands of the unions. But to accomplish what they want-they have to raise taxes and believe me, it ain't going to be pretty.
All I know is that -major big businesses including yours would pack up and leave this country in a heartbeat. Oh! the wealthy, well they too will take their millions and deposit elsewhere.
Even most of us who have some savings will do the same because they have no intentions of being dictated too in how they must live or how their money must be used.
No socialist or marxist is going to dictate to me how to live period.

Conservatives or lib ndp bloc coalition.
My choice is the conservatives.

I'll settle for a strong Liberal minority. We don't need a coalition
to take down Harpo.

I am becoming skepical of the Cnservative mantra that all will be different (i.e. actually conservative!) if they ever hold a majorty in the HofC.

There is much which can be done via regulation. Regulation change does not require a debate in the HofC, nor committee hearings nor a vote in the HofC. Orders in Council (OIC), an act of Cabinet, change regulations. Most of the teeth in legislation is in the regulations.

The Conservative government has not done much via the OIC route to convince me they will tackle problems in the legislation if they secure a majority in the HofC.

"I'll settle for a strong Liberal minority."

Oh, like the size of the strong Conservative minority now governing Tim?

That would mean Iffy's Liberals have to win 68 additional seats, nearly doubling what they now have.

Even a weak minority of 130 means Iffy has to win more than 50 additional seats.

So where will Iffy find those seats?
Dippers won't vote Liberal to 'stop Harper',
they will vote NDP to get more MPs into Iffy's coalition govt.

In fact, Iffy needs a coalition government so as to cover over his inexperience and political poor judgement,
with the guidance of veteran nanny state politicians, Gilles and Jack.

ps.
Tim,
Quebecers are smart cookies.
They are not going to vote Liberal when keeping the LPC out of government gives them hope of swinging a big stick in an Iffy coalition government.

Gilles does not want BC Ab and Ontario to get extra sets,
and that legislation gets tabled next year.

Dion Liberals (including Iffy) signed off on NOT tabling that legislation in appeasement to Gilles.

yes Quebecers would likely not vote liberal if they thought they could be part of a coalition, but that's the key. I bet Iffy knows this quite well.

As for the 'dippers', well, we've seen them jump to the liberals in a heartbeat before, so that can't be counted on really, but the liberals have a ways to go before they can count on winning those votes back anytime soon.

I'm not so sure a liberal minority would be any better than what we have now to the person who suggested it. Perhaps no election for some time is the best option.
