How do you say "playing chicken"...
...in Farsi...
The operation appears to be "no more risky" than the attack in June 1981 on the Osirak reactor in Iraq, which was destroyed by Israel to prevent Saddam Hussein getting nuclear weapons.*
A similar attack on Iran "provides at least as much benefit in terms of delaying Iranian development of nuclear weapons," said researchers Whitney Raas and Austin Long.

The Obama administration should be working feverishly behind the scenes, and perhaps openly, to support the protests, though it's doubtful that they are.
Getting rid of the Mad Mullahs would avoid the whole 'nuclear confrontation' thingy - a very good outcome.
If Iranians formed a rational, representative government - no one would care too much if they did waste their time developing a nuke, but with the crazies in charge they must be stopped.
You can almost read the Leftist Reading Notes:
1) Iran only wants peaceful energy, and any mention of them wanting a bomb is Jewish (er, Israeli) propaganda!
2) Ok, they have a bomb. But it is only a small one, and besides the Jews (er, Israelis) have one!!
3) What the Jews (er, Israelis) did by leveling that peaceful bomb-making plant was a war crime!!!

The 2 comments above are right on target.
One thing that may be a problem is HOW to do it.
I recall articles months ago stating that a major problem was how to wipe out the nuclear facilities that are underground in a mountain location(s).
The article said that there were no conventional or nuclear weapons available that would guarantee the kind of penetration needed to destroy the facilities.
Can anyone clarify this?
Make that 3 comments...there was cross-posting
'Bunker Busters' don't have to destroy the facilities entirely, especially nuclear bunker busters, but they could entomb the labs and set back the program for years - hopefully enough time for Iranians to achieve rational government.

i don't think you have to worry about the initial strike... the israelis and the americans have been war-gaming this particular scenario in excruciating detail for years now.
sure be interesting to see the, er... fallout though.

The big-O would have to agree to any U.S. involvement and he'd never do that.
Maybe hold a town meeting or something but actually DO something?..... that would be above his pay-grade.

"rich says... The big-O would have to agree to any U.S. involvement"
if israel pulls the trigger here, president mcdreamy has two choices... disavow israel entirely... or pile on.
you wanna guess which way the joint chiefs and congress are gonna lean?
