Kristian Thanapalan, of Vaughan, was pronounced dead at Sunnybrook hospital shortly after the midnight fight in Antrim Park, in the Kennedy Rd.-Hwy. 401 area.**********
"It appears that there were two groups of people," he said. "One group was playing cricket in the field. The second group, which included the deceased, was involved in a pickup volleyball game."
Kyriacou said something happened between the two groups that sparked a dispute, and some left the park only to return a short time later armed with various weapons.

carolyn... we left the city in 2001, after five years living in the heart of downtown toronto.
it was time to put neophyte into kindergarten... and, just looking at the increasing urban dislocation & carnage, it was pretty much a no-brainer decision.
it's also a decision we have never regretted... and i recommend it whole-heartedly... for anyone.
it isn't perfect out here... there are issues anywhere you live, i guess... but it was the right choice for us.

I like the city but it feels increasingly unsafe for a woman. The gawkers AKA new Canadians stare at me as though I'm some kind of harlot for wearing a skirt and heels. I'm a banker, somehow a mask wouldn't quite work. ;)

well, there's safety... and there's the dog eat dog pace of a large metropolitan center... and a hundred other things.
i think what you'll see very shortly... as the boomers decide to retire... they'll be cashing in their urban houses & condos and heading for places like muskoka and haliburton... or ontario's new niagara region just to the south of us... prince edward county.
i think we got out just ahead of the rush... our property has not quite doubled in value since 2001.
my advice... make a move as soon as you can.

I heard this news on CTV. They interviewed a neighbour who was the mother of the birthday girl -- the reason for the party. She went on saying that children today don't have a clue, they don't fight with their fists like normal kids, especially when they've been drinking.
It's not just the kids that don't have a clue.
