"...just collect all of the grievance study groups and put them in one department."
"Fat Studies, Anorexia Studies, Queer Studies, Women's Studies, Hispanic Studies, Black Studies, Indian Studies, Transexual Studies, Lesbian Studies, Klutz Studies, Oppressed Studies, Ugly Studies, Not-Too-Smart Studies, Too-Short Studies, etc."
"You could call it Boo Hoo Studies, and in it you could sequester everyone who expects college to cater to their narcissism instead of teaching them about bigger, better, and more important things than themselves."
"Baby bottles in the coke machine, over in that department."

What an amazing plan. The BOO HOO National University of Canada. I think that statement should be on a sign in every politician's office from municipal to federal. They could even have a small section to add some group you may have missed.
Rob C
Yes, and it would be just down the hall from the journalism dept. and one floor below the law school (for convenience).
-----------------------------
I think it's a great idea. All the students who are taking USEFUL studies like engineering, finance, sciences, medicine ect. could work out their stresses by walking across the campus yard to "BOO HOO U" where all the thug-hugging ambulance chasers, lib/loon propagandists and the special interest whiners are located & tease them.
And Boo Hoo Studies would be located close to the journalism dept. and the law school so that when the grievance students make their inevitable entry into either one of these programs they will already be familiar.
"I'm a fat lesbian who's P.O'd at the world. I'd better become a lawyer so I can use scumbag legal manipulation to transform Canadian laws into something they were never meant to be by the electorate".
Adding to a phrase from the linked article, perhaps this expanding collection of whiners could organize into a pan-Canadian lobbying organization:
"The Canadian Association of Everyone But Regular People Living Without Grievance."
Any politician would recognize the critical advantage of pandering to such a huge voting block, starting with the creation of a new superministry:
The Department for the Appeasement of Special Interest Whiners, Moochers and Grievance Mongers.
Ultimately the political landscape will be transformed by the emergence of a new political party:
The Appeasement Party of Canada could be hugely successful, especially if they can successfully lobby for "start-up stimulus" funding, given their special status.
The Boo-Hoos would be the very ones that Professor Iggy is targeting on his 11 day, 11 University cross country tour which he claims is to 'talk to ordinary Canadians about their wants and needs."
If you think Iggy is already out of touch of the realities of being Canadian just wait until he is brainwashed by the Boo-Hoos.
Yikes
If I shared your antipathy towards these areas of study, I would be wary of consolidating them. It might add to their power.
Their existence probably has beneficial effects from your point of view. Having separate programs for each of these issues ghettoizes them; separates them from (and reduces engagement with) the rest of the academic world and each other.
If these separate programs did not exist, their issues might get taken up in the context of mainstream public discourse. That isn't hard to imagine. Political philosophy has always been concerned with justice. To claim that something is unjust is quite common and legitimate...
The Boo Hoo is in the eyes and ears of the beholder [or Boo Hoo er?]. For example, I didn't see any schools of economics and (related public advocacy organizations) that "Boo Hoo" about government involvement in the economy.

"anon1152 posits... I would be wary of consolidating them."
nah, not to worry... my guess is, you dump 'em all in one place, they'd most of their time sitting around cooing & grooming each other.

Sorry we already have that program.
It is called the liberal party of Canada.
Yes, I can see where social justice would scare the right wing. You are so aware of justice issues unless in involves someone different than you.
One law, one people.
"Equality Rights
Equality before and under law and equal protection and benefit of law
15. (1) Every individual is equal before and under the law and has the right to the equal protection and equal benefit of the law without discrimination and, in particular, without discrimination based on race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age or mental or physical disability.
Affirmative action programs
(2) Subsection (1) does not preclude any law, program or activity that has as its object the amelioration of conditions of disadvantaged individuals or groups including those that are disadvantaged because of race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age or mental or physical disability.(84)"

"of course, you might not wanna have your parents visit on Sado-Masochism day."

Sign me up Neo! Someone told me I needed more 'diversity' in my life..and that S&M looks like it would fill the bill!
Do I have to have a Lib or Dipper party membership to get in???
I'm trying to imagine the Power-Struggles in the classroom for the seating arrangements.
What a fight THAT will be since the "Victim-Envy" will be at full speed and each with their own Teams of Lawyers.

"sammy says Sign me up Neo!"
