What's that word for...
... you owe someone a shitpile of money... and you don't pay it back?
-- OTTAWA -- Six MPs who ran for the Liberal leadership in 2006 -- including Stephane Dion -- have missed the year-end deadline to repay loans made to their campaigns, the party says.•
As Mr. Mayrand is not allowed to grant further extensions, the candidates are left in a difficult position. If they can raise the money, they must now get permission from a judge to pay off their loans. Otherwise, the outstanding debts will be treated as campaign contributions under the law.
That would prove awkward for a party that has repeatedly hammered the ruling Conservative party for alleged violations of the elections law through "in and out" advertising purchases in the 2006 campaign.

And the media is right on top of this as usual with headlines, ticker tapes and leading news stories.....
oh...right, it's the Liberals..
Can you even imagine if 6 Conservative leadership candidates had not paid?
What will Elections Canada do about this situation? Can you run for Parliament if you owe political debts? Their financial difficulties makes me wonder how they would manage a substantially larger responsibility like government. Where are all the Liberal supporters (Facebook anyone - inch deep, miles wide), how come they haven't come to the rescue and donated to these worthy candidates. Cheers.

"Deadbeat" comes to mind, for starters.
Guess Liberal fundraising isn't as renewed as they would have us believe.
AG is absolutley correct. If this were the Tories, the Liberals and their kowtowing PPG/MSM would be all over this with bells and whistles. But...........silence - as usual.
There will be an "out" for these Liberals at the 11th hour; mark my words.
At a very minimum Elections Canada should publish how much is owed by each candidate and to whom, and it should be on the front page of every major paper.
Do the "lenders" now get a political donation tax credit for the full amount owing? If so, then this is a great way to soak the taxpayers and allow corporations/high rollers to completely bypass the contributions rules, and essentially "buy" a candidate or a party.
Perhaps the party should be required to pay the debts out of its funds.
My expectation though is that these candidates never intended to pay off the debts, and any fundraising they are doing is for the general liberal coffers to fight the next election.
I am very interested in what happens next.
Does anyone have any idea of the Elections Act and what the repercussions are to these debtors?
Why weren't the RCMP and CBC film crews at LPC Headquarters?
Google -Unpaid leadership loans -
election canada is supposed to post all names, numbers ect.
But, there are a couple of outs for not paying.
For a laugh, somebody should call their constituency offices posing as some collection agency and demanding the money back. (real conservative)
