"We don't support any Senate appointments."

"I don't plan to appoint senators; that's not my intention."
(Stephen Harper, Cornwall Standard-Freeholder, January 14, 2006)

"Stephen Harper will cease patronage appointments to the Senate. Only candidates elected by the people will be named to the Upper House."
(Stephen Harper Leadership Website, January 15, 2004)

Annony AKA STUPID doesn't seem to understand the difference between intend and action. I intend to take a vacation this year. I probably will work straight through just like the last 18 years.

Harper did not intend to appoint unelected senators. The provinces would not hold elections therefore Harper had to appoint the senators or else leave the senate empty. Since he has a duty to keep the senate full..... If you have a problem with appointed senators yell at the premiers who won't hold senatorial elections.

Yeah, its kinda like the Liberal's excuse for Chretien not getting rid of the GST: what he really meant was that he wanted to turn it into an HST, blended with the provinces. Except nobody told Tequila Sheila...

"nonny bleats... Explain please."

lemme see... two choices here.

the opposition refuses to address senate reform.

you can...

1) leave seats vacant and as soon as liberals get a chance they will keep on appointing the same old backroom bagmen to hold up legislation they don't like.

2) until you have a majority and can actually reform the senate... you play the cards you're dealt.

but you're not really that stupid, right? you knew that.

from the comments at the cbc

42 years, YES, 42 years! Not 10 years or 25years or 30years but 42 years!!!! of a Liberal majority in the senate.

42 years of Liberal hacks, flacks and bagmen in the Canadian senate!

42 years of Liberal senators like Andy Thompson, remember him? The Liberal senator that represented the province of Mexico....LMAO!!!!

and then......... after 42 years the Conservatives get a slight majority in the senate and the Liberals have the audacity to complain!

DO NOT BE FOOLED by Liberal crocodile tears...the only reason that they are upset is because these appoints are not Liberals, nothing else.

When the PM gets his majority in the next election, there are another 27 vacancies to fill before his mandate is up. So, no wonder the liberals are upset. They will have to think before they act or vote in the HofC.
They will no longer have their senators to block good legislation, or amend them beyond recognition.
And that, is the reason for the prorogation and killing of bills. Those crime bill will now pass.

And iggy is calling the PM a bully.
