So that means, what...

...he'll be out on parole a week from Tuesday?

-- BRAMPTON, Ont. -- Toronto 18 terrorist Saad Gaya was sentenced Monday to 12 years in prison, minus seven-and-a-half years credit for pre-trial custody.
Ol Saad tried to pull this kind of shit in any Islamic country in the Middle East... they'd have julienned his ass six ways from eternity.

No wonder these guys laugh at us.

FROM THE COMMENTS:
"At some point, Canada will have to grow up and understand that terrorists are real-life mass murderers not deserving of all the offender 'rights' that are afforded run of the mill criminals."

"Pass a law that requires a mandatory life sentence, (as in the rest of your life) for plotting or carrying out a terrorist attack. That's probably the best we can hope for since the public is too squeamish to sanction execution."
**********

UPDATE: To quote "Crocodile Dundee"...

"That's not a knife... this is a knife..."
"Zakaria Amara, the mastermind of a 2006 terrorist plot to bomb Toronto, has been given a life sentence by an Ontario judge, a punishment that represents the courtroom climax of the so-called 'Toronto 18' case."
Okay... that's better.

and after they server their life sentence here they can be deported to the USA as war criminals while the USA is continuing their "war on terror" fear monger campaign amongst their 350 million people who blindly pay taxes to fund billion and trillion dollar interest groups without accountability like the Boeing Mexico border monitor line... 1 billion spent, 45 miles covered and if a bear takes a crap in the woods near a monitoring station or a deer farts it sets off the alarm...

"rich says... terrorists are real-life mass murderers"

my big question here is... "how is it that these guys only realise... after they are arrested & jailed... that allah was steering them wrong?

what kind of faint-hearted faith is that?

hang on a sec... these guys wouldn't be playin' us... would they?

The so-called life sentence handed to Amara also allows him to apply for parole after six years. You get more time than that for beating a mule. The judicial system in this country sucks...big time. As far as I am concerned the judges in this nation are a bunch of hug-a-thug, left wing criminals who should be fired for malfeasance.
And if anyone believes I would only say this behind the relative anonymity of the web, let me assure you I would deliver my verdict to the face of any judge or elected official. The only difference is that I would omit the "in my opinion" and I would add a number of words that should not be published on any blog.

Powell lucas, your argument really doesn't have a leg to stand on. You accuse judges of being 'hug-a-thug, left wing criminals,' yet this justice gave Zakaria the maximum sentence allowable. He's only eligible for parole in six years because he's been in prison for four years already and the max amount of time the judge is legally allowed to delay a chance for parole is ten years (4+6=10).

Regardless of that fact, since it is a life sentence, even if he does get paroled he is going to be subject to police monitoring all of his life. He screws up and he's back in jail.

Did not the Conservatives have legislation to get rid of two for one/time served?

"anonymous says... the maximum sentence allowable"

call me wacky... let's call things by their proper names, shall we?

if you can get out of jail before the end of your life... never mind six years after being convicted... it's not a life sentence.

you get that, right?

I wasn't debating whether a 'life sentence' should be called a 'life sentence' if there is a chance of parole. You certainly knocked that strawman down though. Well done.

"anon whines... whether a 'life sentence' should be called a 'life sentence'"

call me wacky, comrade... but if it's not actually a 'life sentence'... why don't we just call it a 'jelly donut'?

ridiculous, huh.

but that's exactly what the lunatic left... personified by their patron saint president mcdreamy... does, right?

goodbye "war on terror"... hello "overseas contingency operations".

problem solved.

You are just destroying that poor strawman. What did he ever do to you? :'(

But honestly, I do look forward to your crusade to have the 'life sentence' renamed 'in prison until paroled (if ever) and then subject to a lifetime of monitoring sentence.' Or 'jelly donut.' Whichever one politicians think make them sound tougher on crime, really.
