Does new street-racing law...

Have any teeth?

The family of 48-year-old David Virgoe will have to wait to find out.

Wearing handcuffs and looking confused, Nauman Nusrat, 20 and Prabhjit Multani, 20, both of Etobicoke, are faced with several charges including criminal negligence causing death by street racing, criminal negligence causing bodily harm by street racing, dangerous operation causing death, criminal negligence causing death, and causing a common nuisance.

Const. Dave Woodford, with the OPP Highway Safety Division, said the two suspects, who remain in jail, were charged under the relatively new section of the Criminal Code that deals with street racing.

Convictions can carry a maximum penalty of 14 years in prison.

A friend of 19-year-old Nauman Nusrat, one of the men charged, said Mr. Nusrat was known to go at speeds of up to 180 kilometres an hour in his Pontiac Grand Am.

"He was into racing. It was just like for fun," said the 21-year-old, who did not want his name published.

I'd hate to see their auto insurance premiums after this fiasco. Can you say "Facility Association"?..............

OR............

By the time these guys get out of jail (oh, I dunno, in 12-15 years), Ontario will have the one card transit pass for all of the GTA. It will be perfect for these two, because I have a sneaking suspicion, their driving days are OVAH!

How long do you think these two will last in prison?

I like how one guy's job is part time tim horton's and the other is in college ..... i guess this is how they repay society by being jackasses ..... maybe in jail they'll learn how to be productive in life.

not even caused directly by him.(nauman)

I personally think that maybe they should have thought about their regrets BEFORE they decided to turn our highway into their own personal playground. I think they should feel lucky that only one person died that day. Being around trucks all my life I know what they are capable of doing. They should be thankful that their lives were spared that day!!!!

The only reason he regrets it is probably because he got caught. If he had got to where he was going without killing someone do you think he would have regreted the speeds he was doing? Give your head a shake. An accident is an unplanned event, I'm think this does not fall under that term!!!!

I just can't believe that after all this,Multani was STILL stupid enough to violaote his parent's bail and cost them $80000, which they don't have since they're already broke from the recession. Great kid you got there, so much for understanding the consequences of your actions. You'd think after killing a man, you'd get some sense. Things like this make me ashamed to be East Indian, since I drive a well-built car but I don't race, but people assume I do stupid shit like this anyway.
