Healing the world...

One set of hooters at a time.

It isn't curing cancer... or saving the world's starving children... but providing unemployed single moms with bargain basement breasts... has to be on the list somewhere...

For the first time in her life Lucy Wingate feels she has a shape she is happy with. "My body is more womanly and I have my curves in all the right places," she said.

Last week the 26-year-old single mother of two had a breast enhancement, thanks to a new service - mybreast.org - which makes the UK's top plastic surgeons available at prices women like unemployed Lucy can afford.
"Bad news kids... it's beans again and an early bedtime... mommy's special friend is coming over tonight."

Cue music... "Imagine all the people..."

Obviously you feel it is necessary to let everyone know that you a) don't think this is worthwhile, and b) are incapable of thinking of a rationale behind this. I might also say that you are a slave to the fundamental attribution error.

If you know any woman who has had children, occasionally their breasts are not what they used to be after the pregnancy. This is potentially a permanent situation, and can exacerbate an already difficult situation for a single mother. Feeling their youth and beauty slip away is difficult enough, but not having anyone to help them through it, and potentially having difficulty *finding* someone because of their personal confidence issues and the waning status of their most outward symbols of youth (i.e., their breasts) kind of changes my opinion about breast augmentation from "I'm so appalled!" - although admittedly I never was and wouldn't feel the need to announce it even were I - to "Well, sometimes people do things for a reason".

Sometimes people do things for reasons you might not have thought of; not everyone's actions are the product of stupidity, greed and ignorance.

"not everyone's actions are the product of stupidity, greed and ignorance."

welcome back professor anonymous.

it's nice that you are perfectly willing to pony up all sorts of reasons that may, or may not, have been on this woman's mind. my young son, bless his heart, often does the same thing.

i think i'll stick with my thesis that ponying up 10,000 dollars for breast augmentation surgery... perhaps shouldn't be at the top of the to-do list for an unemployed single mother of two.

but thanks for sharing.

I would suggest he is capable of detecting nuance on a level you are not.

"i think i'll stick with my thesis that ponying up 10,000 dollars for breast augmentation surgery... perhaps shouldn't be at the top of the to-do list for an unemployed single mother of two."

Feel free to do so, however I'll point out that I actually provided a reason why someone would consider this important, and I base it on personal experience with women in my life to whom I pay attention and listen to whom I listen. On the other hand, you've provided a shallow value judgment. You also seem to be trying to build a straw-man around the assertion that these women don't even feed their kids until they get their new tits. Seriously, is the use of hyperbolic straw-men the only tactic you have?

If I may ask you: Would you characterize a woman interested in this surgery for the reasons I pointed out that she is a bad or uncaring mother?

jeffy... from this and all your previous comments you seem to have some sort of a tough guy fixation. what's up with that... absent father figure, bullied a lot when you were little?

please share your rationale for why a single, unemployed mother of two should drop 10,000 bucks on fake breasts, instead of oh, i don't know... food, clothing and shelter for her family?

which is different from you, rather than the article, advancing all the reasons this person absolutely needed this cosmetic surgery... in what way?

she apparently doesn't have a husband, oh, sorry... partner, and she doesn't have an income.

what she has is two dependent children.

are you saying this surgery should be a priority in her life under those circumstances?

if so... i strenuously disagree.

"i have detected the tone of an intolerant, uneducated and frightened bully from reading your blog.

yes jeff, i'm sure you do.

that seems to be your constant theme.... from every comment that you have thus far left here. it must be difficult to exist in such an unjust world.

but, i have to ask, if that's the way you really feel... why would you waste your time coming back here, instead of the healing circle over at rabble.ca?

thanks for sharing your personal stuff, especially the psychoanalysis in your latest comment... but i'm thinkin' you might want to hang onto your day job.

Anyone else find it ironic anony-troll accused neo of using shallow values?

"professor anonymous" is one of those people who thinks that any action is ok as long as you can reach far enough to justify it and word that justification in a manner that makes you sound compassionate.
Prof Anon. your compassion is the cheap sort that requires that you only point fingers and say "tsk tsk" at others. You never consider that people are, on occasion responsible for taking care of their own problems and that telling them this is also a form of compassion.

It's pretty obvious that this woman is absurdly self absorbed. Aaaawwww boo hoo, you're getting old and are saddled with a couple of snot nosed rug rats so the studley chest-haired bartenders don't think you're quite such a prize catch anymore? Tough, sucks to be you. Live with your choices and make the best of it. The rest of us owe you nothing.
Given time, those silicone floppies of yours will no longer do the trick either. What then? Will you whine for a face lift?

to all my leftbot friends in this thread, i really have only one final thought...

reread the original article here and take a minute to ask yourself... "do i really wanna die on this particular hill?"

seriously.

I understand completely and support what she wants done to her body.

BUT Why should I pay for it?

I mean I really could use a Ferrari to improve my self image... c'mon State buy it for me.

Did she think about her children before doing this. Not only the expense but all surgery entails risk. She could have serious complications that keep here from working in the future or worse. I think she should seriously consider her priorities.

*sigh* Typical misogynist activity posing as humanitarian action. Sure, these women are struggling economically and don't have the access to an opportunity to make a better life for themselves and their families, but if we can make them hot & sexy they'll feel so much better about themselves. It's creepy, it's wrong, and the people who run this site hate women and are using this "service" as a means to put them in their preferred place.

Just a wild assed guess here, but I'd venture an unemployed single mother of two would pony up 10K for new knockers because she knows Big Brother is going to cover her.

No-sparrow-shall-fall welfare leads to this kind of thing.

Declining public education leads to dumb chicks who will spend every dime they can instead of investing a wee bit in a nice compounding interest instrument.

Smart women prefer not to plant time-bombs in their body.

Uninformed women fail to realize that while pert breasts look good to strangers and the camera, they are unnaturally hard.

Most men prefer natural. = TG
