FROM THE COMMENTS:
Parole hearings for killers should take about ten seconds: "Is the person you killed still dead"?Perfect.

I'll be surprised if the parole board doesn't recommend that he sue the government for deprivation of liberty.
Hey there, Neo.
Long time reader, first time commenter.
First off, I want to offer my condolences on the passing of your father-in-law. From what you've written about him he seemed like a pretty amazing fellow, and I'm sure he'll be missed greatly.
Secondly, to the point of this post: By the time I had read the third paragraph of the linked article, I couldn't help wondering -- what are the odds that a fellow named Fichtenberg would make a homosexual pass at the son of a woman named Fichtenberg?
Still, point well taken about those who commit serious crimes while on parole for other serious crimes. Maybe we should just cut to the chase and give this Butler fellow the Order of Canada or a government grant or something. Wake me up when a life sentence has any relation in reality to actual life.

Anyone who can't answer in the negative doesn't get parole.

yup... let's start calling things by their proper names... if you're not in jail for the rest of your life, it's not a life sentence.
and if you kill someone... you get the max.
