It's true what they say...

...the devil is in the details...

Mr. Jones said that the special type of tire treads on Col. Williams's vehicle tipped off police to his possible involvement in the murders. Police said Monday it was a roadside canvass on a nearby highway that made Col. Williams a person of interest in the case.
I'd like to ask my fuzzy-bunny leftbot following... what sort of rehabilitation will make this guy safe enough to be released back into the larger field of folk?

And... assuming you accept the premise, that like Paul Bernardo, Clifford Olsen & Willie Pickton... Col. Williams is irretrievably broken... why do we not have the death penalty anymore in Canada?
And that's not a rhetorical question.

Neo, he should be tried under Queens Regulations & Orders, (Military Law).

He could and should face the death penalty using those laws.

"robins111 says... He could and should face the death penalty using those laws."

col. williams gets his day in court and is found guilty... i personally wouldn't have a problem with that.

unfortunately, i'd say there's a better chance jack layton gets elected prime minister than any of these freaks get their just desserts.

Ask Stephen Truscott.

The canadian forces will not procecute him for murder, murder falls under canadian law. if he is prosecuted and found guilty he could be sent to Military prison Edmonton for 2 years and then sent to civilian prison to serve the remainder of his sentence.
2 years in Edmonton = 10 years in any civi prison

this is info is just basic my miltary law is a little rusty

Mine is a little rusty also, but I am certain that Q,R&O's has Murder, Rape, etc in it.

Also I am certain that it has several cases which the Death penalty would apply, Treason springs to mind.

Regarding the above, isn't that poor Capt. being Court-marshalled being tried for Murder?

neo, We don't have death penalty because just recently several individuals were released from prison after serving years, being wrongly convicted. You can release a wrongly convicted, but you can't bring back dead.
We don't have death penalty for the same reason, crown in Ontario is under scrutiny for tempering with jury listings.
Jail sentence is reversible, death is not.
Col. Williams was not convicted yet, was he? So why are you calling for his death? AFAIK it is a bit premature.

The Criminal code and prosecution under civil law takes precedent on Canadian soil.

He will not face military justice.

even in the united states... it commonly takes decades for an execution to take place.

and please name one canadian who was mistakenly executed.

you really think warehousing clifford olsen or willie pickton is really the best solution?

As much as scum like Bernardo and Homolka deserve the death penalty, I am nervous of it simply because I don't trust the government to do much correctly. There have been too many folks who sat in jail for murder who turned out to be innocent: ie: Morin, Milgaard, etc.

Now on the other hand if guys who do perform these acts are convicted they at the very least should be in jail forever. I have no problem with the 100+ year sentences handed out in the US. It pisses me off that the real killer in Milgaard's case, Fisher, already convicted of a prior rape, was eligible for parole in 10 years.

Anyone found committing any type of violent crime should be jailed forever.

" the NRA 2nd Amendment types believe their guns are a safeguard against the government becoming a tyranny. I agree with their reasoning"

WTF, liberal supporter almost said something smart?!? He keeps this up and maybe he'll evolve...

lib sup: one thing, conservatives think it's their right to bear arms, in particular rifles - which are the choice weapon for combat in the modern tactical theatre should it come to the defence of human liberty against the tyranny of government. Conservatives feel it is their right to carry a handgun for self protection against the criminal element. The difference is subtle yet understandable to people who are familiar with firearms.

of course, libby then had to follow up his comment with some absolute idiocy yet again... spoofing someone who speaks bad english.

which is why he gets deleted yet again.

Neo - it probably has happened. Many years ago, there was a murder in the Castlegar region of B C and a local Doukobour was arrested, tried, convicted, and executed. To the end, he maintained his innocence. I heard about this from a prominent local laywer who was convinced an innocent man had been hanged.

well, frances... not to be too picky... but i'd be interested in seeing the source.

I'll go with the good Doc here as well: see if you can find the movie "Thin Blue Line" sometime. Even those decade long cases in the states are full of incompetent lawyers, lying cops and "expert" witnesses who are anything but.

No, I say stuff the Bernardos of this world into a 5 by 5 cage, 23.5 hours a day until they are dust. Or Gen Pop. Either way, works for me.

sure james... that is the wonderful thing about living in a democratic country, isn't it?

we all don't have to agree on every little thing.

"liberal supporter says... waaaaaaaaaaahhhhh"

ah, yes... the indisputable wisdom of anonymous trolls.

thus commences liberal supporter's daily bombing of the comment threads... elucidating, in great detail, how unimportant i am in his life.

Neo - I don't know the details; did know about the murder which woul have happened in the late 40s or early 50s (or perhaps earlier). Someone was shot and the gun thrown off the old bridge to the airport. It was retrieved and used in evidence. I just remember the lawyer's comments some years later. Don't think the innocence was ever queried by the establishment.

There was also the Coffin case in the Gaspe.
