Talking to Euroweenies

In a world where China apparently doesn't exist...

So amazingly destructive has Canada become, and so insistent have my Canadian friends been that I weigh into this fight, that I've broken my self-imposed ban on flying and come to Toronto.
Yes, Georgie... we feel your pain.

RELATED: Yoo-hoo, Enviro-boy... over here
The latest projections show that China will overtake the United States to become the world's top producer of carbon dioxide by 2009, nearly a decade quicker than projected in previous studies. China will soon produce 20 per cent of all the carbon dioxide on the planet.

LAST WORD: Wake up, smell the scam
If anyone needs newspapers, it ought to be for stories like this. If there were no impending ecopalypse, then "climate science" would be a relatively obscure field, as it was up to a generation ago.

Now it produces celebrity scientists living high off the hog of billions in grants. They thus have a vested interest in maintaining the planet's-gonna-fry line.

I suppose the fact that China has over 3x the population of the US is lost on you?

People are one thing..China builds (on average) one coal fired plant a week. They have some of the most lax regulations when it comes to reducing ANY type of emission, that it would not matter what size of population they have.

"another anonymous troll whinges... China has over 3x the population"

sorry... not relevant. and the willful poisoning of their own population in the name of explosive economic growth is coming home to roost.

the fact that they are the world's largest polluter is not something that should be excused... by your pinko buddy monbiot, or anybody else.

China will follow our shining example of promoting highly subsidized, staggeringly inefficient and ecologically harmful "green technologies"?

They'll sit back and laugh as we hobble ourselves with religious iconography disguised as viable energy sources.

Who knows, down the road, if we get progressively greener (and poorer), they, in turn, will use their wealth to clean up their pollution using technology we developed over the last couple of generations - and sell it back to us.

Neo... This post and comments are old, and I'm sure I'll forget to check to see your response, if any... but...

"Sorry...not relevant?"

How does that comment NOT imply that one Chinese person is worth a fraction of one American or Canadian person?

And if not... how would you convince someone in China of that?

Race doesn't (or at least needn't) have anything to do with it. We could be talking about a billion Canadians, Americans, or Martians.

I'm talking about equality. So is the Canadian government. But they (rather conveniently in this case) are using individual states as the unit of analysis. Why not individual human beings? If you're not going to treat others as equals (at the very least) then why should they deal with you?

Especially if, in this case, many of their emissions are the result of economic activity that produces cheap(er) goods for you and I. Like the computer I'm typing on right now. (The same argument can be used for the oil sands: we don't emit all those greenhouse gases just for ourselves).
