New York City police are investigating a truck abandoned several yards from a toll booth near the Manhattan side of the Triborough Bridge.**********
Police say witnesses reported seeing a man flee the vehicle some time Wednesday night and a smell of gasoline was reported coming from the vehicle, which was described as a U-Haul or Ryder truck.
The Bridge was shut down to traffic and emergency services officers along with the bomb Squad and the FDNY are responding to the scene.
UPDATE: Looks like a false alarm
Police X-rayed the truck and cut a hole in the side and discovered it was empty. They inspected the engine and the undercarriage. "Nothing was found," Browne said.Better safe than sorry.
The vehicle, described as a U-Haul or Ryder truck, was then moved near the toll plaza. Police were looking to speak to the person who abandoned it. "We don't know why he fled," Browne said.
