BREAKING... Another car bomb?

New York City police are investigating a truck abandoned several yards from a toll booth near the Manhattan side of the Triborough Bridge.

Police say witnesses reported seeing a man flee the vehicle some time Wednesday night and a smell of gasoline was reported coming from the vehicle, which was described as a U-Haul or Ryder truck.

The Bridge was shut down to traffic and emergency services officers along with the bomb Squad and the FDNY are responding to the scene.

UPDATE: Looks like a false alarm
Police X-rayed the truck and cut a hole in the side and discovered it was empty. They inspected the engine and the undercarriage. "Nothing was found," Browne said.

The vehicle, described as a U-Haul or Ryder truck, was then moved near the toll plaza. Police were looking to speak to the person who abandoned it. "We don't know why he fled," Browne said.
Better safe than sorry.

Well folks it's started. Make sure you register your firearms, so that they can be confiscated in a much more efficient fashion, for your own good of course.

Well, I used to drive a vehicle that could have been kindly described as a "car", and in the old days, they were called "bombs", as is "you still driving that old bomb?".

It certainly smelled and sounded like one...

I can anticipate many suspicious looks at similar vehicles in the very near future in the Excited States.

this latest event could have been a probe to gauge the type of response the emergency services would mount.

it is also not unknown for terrorist groups to use an initial explosion to draw an emergency response... then set off a second device to wreak further havoc among first-responders
