Getting soft on drugs

You know... the victimless crime.

-- EDMONTON -- With his young wife slain and his brother charged with murder, NDP candidate Mike Butler knows the issue of violent crime more intimately than many Canadians.

On April 7, 2007, Butler's life began to crumble when his father-in-law telephoned to let him know that Butler's wife, Stephanie, had been bludgeoned to death in their home.

Then the news got worse. His brother, Ken, who Butler said was once addicted to methamphetamine, was charged with the crime.
Just one question here, Mike... why are you running for the Dippers?

FROM THE COMMENTS:
"It sounds like he is not holding his brother accountable for killing his wife. It was the drugs that did it."

"He must be out of his mind with grief."
And...
"It's being reported on the news here that the man with the knife was actually put on the bus by the police."

Police say the plants where found with drug production material on a building annexed to the property in the town of Saint-Lin-Laurentides in Quebec's Lanaudiere region.

LAST WORD: That Giant Flushing Noise
“The downward tide of leftism is “tolerant, diverse, non-judgmental, non-discriminatory, egalitarian, politically correct, multicultural, globalist, and collectivist."

"It insists that there are no rights and wrongs, no moral absolutes. It turns everything upside down in its looking glass world."

"It denies the correctness of all that produced what our culture revered before the deconstruction of the world in accordance with the tenets of cultural Marxism.”

Butler - ""Criminals are being thrown back on the street right now and our communities are being treated as jails," said Butler, 28, who owns his own business installing hardwood floors."

Why is this guy running for the NDP? I don't get it.

"Two loaded pistols and cocaine were seized after two men were arrested in south Etobicoke, police say."

"One of the suspects had been banned from having a firearm. The other suspect has a record of firearm offences following the August 2005 shooting of a man in the neck."

well... you've got me.

It doesn't make sense, but a typical ndp thought pattern.

It sounds like he is not holding his brother accountable for killing his wife. It was the drugs that did it.

He has his own business, and he is voting ndp, that is another incongruent flag.

He must be out of his mind with grief.

What this edited version of the original article doesn't mention is that Butler is still getting harrassing phone calls from his jailed brother. Is the brother still on drugs inside prison? Or is there a deeper problem?

"anne asks... Is the brother still on drugs inside prison? Or is there a deeper problem?"

anne, he's a meth-head... the murderin' freak has fried all his circuits.

if there were any real justice in this world... they'd do everybody a favour and put a needle in his arm.

My heart goes out to Butler, but I think he mis-understands the 'harm reduction'methods that the Dippers wants for druggies.

I think I read somewhere that his brother has schizophrenia and many with mental illness also have a drug addiction. What I wanna know is if his brother is getting treatment or if he's simply in jail. Sounds like the latter if he is still making harassed calls.

In short, I'm not surprised by Butler's NDP stance but I'm surprised that there's more focus on throwinng criminals in jail when clearly, someone with a mental illness and drug addiction should have been treated in the first place to prevent these kinds of tragedies from happening.

meth-head murders member of his own family... you could have prevented that?

he is not the victim here.

If he was in an institution and/or having someone working on fixing his drug addiction-yes, I'd hope.

But since he was roaming around free while hooked up on drugs and hallucinating and having delusions, he put himself and other people around him in danger. Sadly, it resulted in the death of a family member. And yeah, I'd go as far as to blame the incompetence of the mental health system as well for this.

No, im many ways he is not the victim. But there are soo many people out there who are mentally ill and turn to drugs to self-medicate. I just don't understand why the gov't keeps ignoring this problem and pretending that there is no correlation!
