Tasers, my ass

Exactly how many Canadians die every year in alcohol related incidents?

"All five occupants of the car, a 41-year-old man, a 33-year-old woman, girls aged six and nine, and a 16-month-old boy, were pronounced dead at the scene."
To answer the question above... if you were thinking it was more than four or five per year... you'd be right.
About 3,000 people per year die in motor vehicle crashes in Canada. Of that total, 40 per cent (1,200 deaths) are attributed to alcohol.

Canadians are spending up to $25 billion annually in emergency care, rehabilitation and other costs resulting from traffic collisions.
There's a public enquiry I'd like to see.

What do tasers have to do with this? You suggesting that cops can engage in reckless behaviour and kill people and that is okay in order to enforce the law? How does this equate to people acting stupidly? Besides, one has to assume that police are all sensible and rational at all times and have the greater concerns of society foremost in their minds instead of their own interests, which I doubt by the way.

The point is that tragic deaths happen all the time but the story of five deaths will fade away faster than you can say public inquiry. The safety of Canadians in general would be better served by spending the money and resourses on fighting something that kills far more people.

Too true neo con, types like anon. bash the police constantly until they need help. Then its "why did they take so long"

This drunk driving murderer will get HOUSE ARREST because of the goofball Liberal Party of Canada's justice policies.

One day the people of Canada have to rise up and demand changes.

We are too soft on this shit and it drives me nuts.

People are killed everyday by drunk drivers and NOONE SAYS A FUC*IN WORD.

The victims will be forgot about by the end of today.

This guy should be doing life in prison without parole.

Period.

If that was my family he killed, he would get the death penalty.

On my behalf.

No doubt about it.

The guy is a piece of shi*.

Let's follow this one and see exactly what kind of punishment he ends up with. I'm MADD!.

Joanne; look to the travesty in Manitoba {Harvey-Zenk case} where an off duty cop drank all night with his buddies and rearended a car stopped at a red light...sound familiar.... and got off with house arrest. Worse yet the NDP government says they have the toughest drinking and driving laws in the country.

So when are we going to ban alcohol again?

After all it works so well in Toronto when it comes to handguns right?

Do as I did - sell the car.

could you explain the connection to tasers?

"anon asks... could you explain the connection to tasers?"

ah... perhaps you are one of the few people in the country who do not own a television, or subscribe to print media... and have thus been spared the sky is falling deluge of taser news.

the fact is, as one internet savant recently said... more people have been strangled by their own pants, than have died as a result of being tasered.

in contrast, one in four ontarians will eventually get cancer in some way, shape or form. let's shake off the mindless, media driven husteria... and try regain a sense of proportion here.

I'll try to help anonymous out, since you folks seem a little slow on the uptake.

All Canadians are concerned with drunk driving. That's why we comply with the unwarranted searches of the R.I.D.E. program.

The left-wing in Canada does not campaign for lenient penalties for drunk-driving.

So that that's cleared up.

Now, on to tasers; anonymous wants to know what the connection to tasers is.

Because, you see, the issue of drunk-driving penalties is entirely irrelevant to whether our police are being taser-happy and people who would not have been killed are killed as a result.

Do you understand this now? Taser deaths are avoidable. Especially if they were the result of police resorting to their tasers with no provocation.

Thank goodness that the numbers of these deaths are relatively small, but one avoidable death is too many, especially if it happens to you or someone you love.

Are we clear now?

If not, consider that your entire argument could be replicated by inserting "terrorism" for "tasers" and it wouldn't be any less irrelevant.

"thwap says... Taser deaths are avoidable. Especially if they were the result of police resorting to their tasers with no provocation."

Taser deaths are avoidable. Especially if they were the result of people going apeshit in a public venue and scaring citizens into calling for police to protect them.

Are we clear now?

kevron... if you imagine for even a second that wiping your own shit all over the walls here... does anything more than expose your apparent lack of purpose and communication skills, you are sadly mistaken.

i could simply act as most of your progressive pals would do... and delete this nonsense as it comes in, but hey little boy, knock yourself out... you underline every point i have ever made about the lost, illiterate left.

No, you're definitely not clear on this.

You don't electrocute people because you heard they were causing a disturbance.

This isn't that hard to figure out.

When the police arrived, Mr. Dziekanski was calm and posed no threat to the officers. There were four of them, and they had protective vests on, and he, at most, might have been holding a stapler.

According to your logic here, this is how you might die: You approach a group of anti-war activists and begin yelling at them and grabbing their signs, in utter frustration at their inability to recognize the truth of your position. Somebody calls the police on a cellphone saying that you were going "apeshit," the police arrive and you calm down and are actually happy to see the fine boys in blue, but unfortunately for you, they all start shitting in their pants because you're breathing heavily, you're covered in sweat, and you're still holding the wooden handle of one of the terrorist-loving scumbags's peace signs in your hand, and instead of praising your patriotic action, the police taser you multiple times and then sit on your chest as your lungs and heart are struggling to restart themselves and you die.

Is that the Canada that you want to live in?

Neo Conservative said...

thwap says... When the police arrived, Mr. Dziekanski was calm and posed no threat to the officers."

yeah, sure... that's why the airport rent-a-cops called for the rcmp... because there was no threat.

maybe you could tell constable chris garret's widow your theory about police brutality.

and thwap, my pinko pal... if you're so terrified of the police death squads here in canada... i'm sure you could emigrate to someplace safe in, say... cuba, or the middle east.

this guy, who wandered vacantly around an airport baggage area for 10 hours and then went completely nuts throwin' shit around a public venue... had some obvious mental health issues.

the too obvious moral of the story here is... behave like a rabid animal... get treated like one."

lenny said...

People were scared, thwap. And goddammit, he had a stapler. Anyhow, there's no changing things, you'll just have to move to Cuba if you don't like it.

"... had some obvious mental health issues.

And it's not just the mentally ill who deserve capital punishment. Hypoglycemics and epileptics - now there are some rabid animals that should be put down. But the mentally ill are as good a place to start as any.

of course... the death penalty... that's exactly what i said. funny though... i don't remember a stapler... but i saw a picture of him holding some of the furniture he was throwing around.

i always knew squiggy was the smart one.

I wish it was a straw man. But, there's nothing ambiguous about advocating that someone with "obvious mental health issues" behaving like "a rabid animal", be treated like one. We've all seen Old Yeller.
Why would your position be any different because the behaviour happened to be due to some other medical condition?

you're perfectly willing to supply both sides of the argument.
