Just something to think about...
...while you're sitting waiting for 6 hours in your local hospital emergency room...
Since Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty announced 75 new scholarships for foreign PhD students in China last week, paying their way has turned into a provincial battleground.Well, heck... why not, huh?
The initiative will cost the province $20-million over the next four years, supplemented by $10-million more from universities.
It is Mr. McGuinty’s latest attempt at a precarious political balancing act: driving an outward-looking innovation agenda while trying to soothe rattled voters ahead of an election next year.
As long as we've got all those excess taxpayer monies lying aroun... wait a minute...
RELATED: Oh, stop fretting...
...I'm sure there's a rigorous selection process...
The exposure of Mr. Zhang’s faked credentials provoked a fresh round of hand-wringing over what many scholars and Chinese complain are the dishonest practices that permeate society, including students who cheat on college entrance exams, scholars who promote fake or unoriginal research, and dairy companies that sell poisoned milk to infants.

so... is dalton really saying that our own kids... you know, the ones who actually live here in ontario... just aren't smart enough?
merry xmas, mr hudak.

He doesn't want other Canadian students, either.

"frances says... other Canadian students"
i don't get it.
we've been saving for a decade to scratch together funds to send neophyte to university... but dalton's giving $40,000 scholarships... to the folks who brought us lead-painted baby toys?
what's next... internships at dnd for the children of african dictators?

I find it curious that you spend all your time attacking the provincial government over wait times. I seem to recall this was a Harper promise. One that conveniently disappeared off their list a little while later now didn't it.
Curious, given the billion bucks squandered on the G8/G20, and well, the list can go on for quite a while the excesses of this conservative government. Yet, I don't see one mention, of any of it here. Whatsoever!
Curious.
Wait a minute. aaaaaah. Right. Conservative good, liberal bad.
Surely that's the path to good government isn't it! I suppose this is why, you're mainly mocked elsewhere if any passing reference were made. But you certainly provide a great example of a true, conservative supporter.
Dumb, as a post.

"nonny confidently pronounces... I seem to recall this was a Harper promise."
of course you do. i'm actually a little surprised you didn't try to blame george bush.
but... you dumb bunny... wait times are a provincial responsibility... and dalton just continues to bleed taxpayer dollars because he can't get his shit together.
"Ontario's Liberal government has paid out almost $1 billion to private companies to cover new hospital construction overruns, a coalition of community health organizations said Friday."
"'This has to be Dalton McGuinty's most expensive broken promise from the last election,' Dora Jeffries, co-chair of the Ontario Health Coalition (OHC) said in a statement."
and, little nonny-mouse... not a word about the actual subject of the post... funny how that works, huh?

Dude, never mind the students. That's nothing.
I've already got a Masters and a license to practice physical therapy in the USA (the richest, most advanced country in the world), but not only do my credentials mean JACK SHIT here in Ontario, I'm officially not smart enough to take the licensing exam.
They want me to take the schooling -over again-. Because Canadian schooling is, like, better than American. Or something.
My case is not unique. Quite the reverse. Its so much worse for doctors, too.
Just in case you were wondering why you can't get a doctor.
Oh and by the way. As a result of some upper management issues at a bunch of Ontario hospitals (which shall remain nameless) in several Golden Horseshoe cities (which shall also remain nameless), the doctor you waited 6 hours to see will be:
A) Really tired,
B) Really, -really- pissed off,
C) Fighting with other tired, pissed off doctors and nurses and techs to get you whatever tests drugs and procedures you may require.
Its pretty much a big shit sandwich and we all got to take a bite. Bon appetite.
