The real reason Rob Ford got elected
"Over the summer, retiring city councillor Kyle Rae charged his office budget $421.18 to pay the city's own parks department for a permit to hold 'Leatherball in the Park'."And, hey... how about 3 grand for French lessons for TTC chairman Adam "Romeo" Giambrone.

On this, sir, we can most certainly and absolutely agree.
Idiots.

well, ted... i'm guessing i'm gonna get all sorts of "you're a homophobic s.o.b." emails on this one... but, the truth is... i couldn't care less about who, or even what, these guys wanna stick their dick into.
i just don't wanna pay for it.
it's that simple.

p.s. - i know giambrone's not gay... he demonstrated that very publicly.
the point, however, stands.

If this was just one example that you picked out, Neo, then yeah that would be homophobic. But when this type of spending is so rampant at City Hall, this is just one example of too many.
I also get and accept that City employees, the ordinary folk most of whom do (or try to do) a decent job, are just as entitled to the ordinary employee benefits as anyone else, like a summer BBQ or awful fee kitchen coffee or Loblaws cake with too much frosting on someone's birthday.
But the kind of waste at City Hall goes well beyond that. And so much of it is directly for the benefit of City Councillors, for which I have little patience. We should not be paying for a councillor to put their name on a balloon or for an expensive farewell party.
Ford is an idiot if he actually thinks that he can balance the books by "ending the gravy train", but that doesn't mean the gravy train shouldn't be ended.

i'm pretty sure no one actually believes you can pull hogtown out of deficit territory... by pulling perks from city employees... but boy-o-boy did ford hit a nerve here.
it'll be interesting to see where the ride will take torontonians... and hard to imagine it can be much worse than david miller's socialist paradise.

I know a lot of Torontonians who voted for Ford who took the view that: Smitherman may be able to get things done, but he leaves disaster in his wake; with Ford the worst that could happen is that nothing gets done for 4 years (and is that really such a bad thing). For that reason they didn't care about electing a buffoon who will embarrass us for 4 years. There were bigger more "real" issues.
Miller not only allowed the waste to continue (I don't frankly think it was any worse under any prior mayor), but he got so distracted into plans and programs that were expensive and most of Torontonians didn't care about or like. (Plus the garbage strike.)
Ford got that and kudos to him. Plus he was genuine about it since that had been his issue for 10 years.

ted betts says... the worst that could happen is that nothing gets done for 4 years"
