...all the peaceniks have gone mute...

The leadership change from President George W. Bush could present Karzai with new challenges in his relationship with the U.S.

Obama has chided Karzai and his government in the past, saying it had "not gotten out of the bunker" and helped to organize the country or its political and security institutions.

Fighting terrorism and the insurgency "in Afghanistan, the region and the world is a top priority," Karzai's office quoted Obama as saying.
Funny how that works.

And suddenly "talking" to Iran is more complicated then just talking:

We have negotiated at great length. People came to France, we sent people to Iran, we met them, and unfortunately this dialogue produced nothing. And so, one must be careful," Kouchner told TV5 television and RFI radio.
Kouchner said his concern is that direct talks between Washington and Tehran could hurt the unity of the major powers that presented the offers to Iran and have imposed sanctions against it – France, Britain, Germany, the United States, Russia and China.
