Next book on my reading list

Hugh Segal's... The Long Road Back: The Conservative Journey, 1993-2006.

Segal on Stephen Harper...

"Even when I disagree with him on issues -- which, as you can imagine, will happen -- here's a guy who sends his kids to public school, probably the first prime minister in decades to do that; who didn't think there was anything inappropriate in him wandering in to the Ottawa Civic Hospital and waiting like everybody else when he had an asthma attack after the election that made him prime minister designate."

"His view of the relationship between public office and private benefit is that there shouldn't be any. He's a very Everyman Conservative."

I'm getting this book for Christmas, actually, but that one passage was the thing that stood out the most about that article. It is, in fact, one of the main reasons I like Stephen Harper as a person and a leader so much.

I've had emails replied to sent back to me from the Government. Including Prime Minister Stephen Harper. I've never really imagined any other PM would. He is a very personable guy who cares about Canada and well cares about the little guy. I think he's looking for extraordinary people who will do great things for Canada and support and build a Conservative movement. I'm doing my best by blogging here at BT. But I'm still just a little guy. I'm hoping for Majority, to keep this Conservative movement moving. He sent it to me on the same day he was to go meet Bush in Washington. Not sure what day exactly that was though I could go check. Sometime, in the future, I'll add them to my blog site. As to the book by Hugh Segal, I'm currently reading 'Right side up' by Paul Wells. 'The Long Road Back'
is next. Or better yet, I'll just ask for it for Christmas.

FWIW. I found the Segal book a nice read and somehwt illuminating on the "road back"from a more PC perspective, though it is neither so incisive nor so well-written as Wells'book, which is often not just astute but LOL funny. I'm moving on to Plamondon over the holidays, I hope.

everything i've read about harper makes me like him more & more.

i remember one time when someone in the media wanted him to do a "kiss the baby" shot for the 6 o'clock news and he told them, "no thanks... don't believe in using children as campaign props."

i had an email exchange with john tory late one night and he's the same... very personable, even after i addressed my letter "dear email minion" because i didn't think he read his own mail.

as soon as i finish "america alone" i'm on to the segal book.

Ice breakers, income trusts, amending the constitution to include property rights,Quebec as a nation. HArper has done a lot of back tracking. It makes him look like he's learning on the job. He makes ill-advised campaign announcements. I fear for our country unless Harper flip flops again.

Well, thank you southerntory for your post. I also had an e-mail from PM Stephen Harper. I almost fell off my chair, and didn't really really believe it until now. I did believe that PM Stephen Harper would do such a thing, but I've been so disappointed in federal politics in the last decades that it just seemed too good to be true.

PM Stephen Harper will go down in history as one of the greats.

His kids look so down to earth normal, as does his wife.

I don't think we'll have any miniature "Justin Trudea-like" know it all-ego driven kids parading around on daddy's ticket either. Don't know if that came out right, but hopefully you get my drift.

Hey... Grit Boy, you should be more afraid of your nanny-state buddies. Goin' to the Liberal Leadership Convention?

Sounds like a real party.

"Resolution No. 45: WHEREAS the current law discriminates against unmarried same-sex couples by not permitting unmarried persons under 18 to legally engage in consensual anal intercourse; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Liberal Party of Canada urge the Federal Government of Canada to bring the age of consent for anal intercourse in equal pairing with other forms of sexual activity."

I guess the Libs are just standin' up for the little guy, huh?
