STAND BY FOR BREAKING NEWS!!!

Apparently, Stephane Dion has a billion dollars in his back pocket...

Liberal Leader Stephane Dion is set to shift his "Green Shift" plan just days before a federal election is expected to be called.

CTV News has learned Dion will announce that part of the $1 billion contingency fund in his plan, designed for tax relief to address the unavoidable costs associated with the carbon tax, will be set aside for truckers, farmers and fishermen.
Wait a second! What's that? He doesn't have any money? NONE AT ALL!?!

Whaddaya mean... WE'VE gotta pay for it?!

That's Steffi's idea of revenue neutral?

No wonder this dope is polling behind Taliban Jack.

**********

UPDATE: A billion here... a billion there...
"There's $1-billion wiggle room," said Montreal MP Marlene Jennings. "We've never said that the plan, in terms of the spending side, is complete, because it's not."
A billion dollars... aka Liberal chump-change.

No wonder he's coming up short in the polls...

If momentum for Harper and auto destruct for Dion continues at this pace, the country will be painted tory blue come Oct. 15.

There's a reason why the Conservative adds are currently positive. Although apparently Dion hates the "negative" (Dis his knot fare!) he will have no choice but to use negative ads (With very little finance at his disposal) starting about 2 weeks before vote day...Then the Conservatives will point the fact that Libs are desparate and some whoppers counter attacks (With much peyola$) from the Conservatives will ensue, providing the final blow and good shake of that blue paint can I talked about earlier...SWEET!

funny time to go to "plan b"... especially considering the previous rhetoric...

"When Mr. Dion launched the Green Shift last June, he said Liberals would spend the summer having a 'dialogue' with Canadians about the complicated plan."

"Since then, one insider said the leader has rejected any criticism of the plan, insisting 'there will be no changes, not a comma
.'"

the liberals... they're flexible.

Besides addressing the tax implications of Dion's plan, I think that it is important to also generate discussion on the impact that such a tax shift will have on the Canadian economy. The transitional costs would have to be tremendous.

Consider the impact that other transformative changes, positive and negative, had on sectors, industries and regions:

- free trade
- the metric system
- the National Energy Program
- the GST

The difference, in this case, is that there will be virtually no positives since there is no significant sector or industry which is sufficiently large to offset the losses felt throughout our largely carbon dependent infrastructure.

I fear that the tax impacts on individual citizens will pale in comparison to the transitional costs borne by the Canadian economy.

What do you think?

"larry says... I fear that the tax impacts on individual citizens will pale in comparison to the transitional costs borne by the Canadian economy."

interesting point.

we have to consider this from more than a "n.i.m.b.y." point of view.

not something the average person spends a lot of time doing.

From the National Post today:-
"Dion denies the allegation and said the Liberals are not retreating from their original plan."

Right Steffi you keep on believing that you now have a target rich environment.

I'd like to see a CPC ad where lib. MP's are asked the same pointed questions about this plan. There would be need to edit as the responses would be all over the map and would display an interesting panorama of what reality is....for them anyway.
They don't have a clue how this latest plan or the earlier one would work.
