It's time to admit the ugly truth
The Fiberal's "Farmer Bob Rifle Registry" is an abject failure... so when do we get our two billion dollars back?
According to Statistics Canada, gun homicides are up 24% since 2002, despite the existence of the registry. And according to the Canadian Institute for Legislative Action and the Canadian Shooting Sports Association, 92% of gun crimes in Canada are committed with illegal handguns.*

It would be interesting if Stats Canada provided a real break down of those numbers. For example:
-what percentage of gun crimes are stranger on stranger
-what percent are family on family
-what percentage could be argued as accidents. There's a hunter in Ontario who may be convicted of manslaughter for shooting a hiker. I guess that's one of those crimes committed with a registered long gun
-in each of the above categories what percentage are hand guns, what percentage are long guns, what percentage are illegal guns (sawed off, assault etc) and what percentage are legally owned Canadian guns.
-Finally, the police policy of treating all unidentifiable guns as Canadian should be stopped. If the serial number on a gun is gun why do we assume its not illegally imported, other than as a way of inflating the figures against CDN gun ownership.
typo
on a gun is gone
sorry ;-)

unfortunately, this isn't about facts... it's about fearmongering.
well, that... and hundreds of millions of dollars wafted right into the pockets of the liberal party's corporate buddies.
call me wacky... but how about we start going after criminals... instead of law-abiding owners of legal firearms?

Ah, but you know as well as I do that the "true believers" will continue to spin this whichever way they want to; if murders go up, they'll say "Just imagine if we didn't have the registry; it would have gone up even MORE", and if murders go down, they're more than happy to say "See, that just shows that it's working". They don't give a damn about the REAL causes, just so long as they get to pimp their pet project.
Yup, and what I've noticed about "the true believers" is that almost all of them have never held or fired a firearm in thier lives. They have only the propaganda fed to them all their lives to base their beliefs on. I've personally introduced a few people like this to the shooting sports, and once they have actual personal experience of firearms it seems that they suddenly change their opinion. Where once it was something to fear it becomes something not so scary after all.
Taking a course this winter to get my firearms acquisition certificate. Joining the sane and leaving the hysterical fear mongering in the dust. This gal is gettin her guns while the getting is still, if not good, possible.
One needs to exercise a right in order to preserve it.

"c-mom says... One needs to exercise a right in order to preserve it."
an important and often overlooked fact.

Neo, you're right, this isn't about facts, nor is it about gun control. Its all about people control. Guns are merely a means to an end. Hitler used it, Mao used it, PoL Pot used it. Luckily, our previous Liberal government didn't have the intestinal fortitude to carry things through to their logical conclusion. So far.
