This is a story that is repeated over and over: mentally ill person goes off meds; mentally ill person goes on rampage and is slain by police; family member whines that police should have known victim was mentally ill. If members of a victim's family, who are aware of a person's mental problems, don't take action to see that such a person stays on their prescribed medication regime how can they expect the police to make a judgment about someone's mental capacity on the spot. How is it that these family members, who did nothing to ensure the safety of their relative, can dump that responsibility onto the shoulders of the police.
