Strengthening the Gene Pool

Remember when you were a kid... and you'd settle disputes with swords and baseball bats?

Yeah... me neither.

He admits that he and his friends lived a life of crime in the past few years.

"We always just jumped people, robbed people ... it turned into a habit," he said. "Something violent happened in my life almost every day."

Still, he's shocked and saddened by losing a friend to such violence.
I know, dude, I know... who could have possibly seen that coming, huh?

Teen dies after sword attack
By RICHARD LIEBRECHT, SUN MEDIA
The Edmonton Sun

EDMONTON - A 17-year-old Edmonton boy was slain early yesterday in a street fight involving several weapons, including a sword.

One of the victim's friends, who suffered a minor slash to his arm, said the brawl that involved as many as 20 combatants was over an ex-girlfriend.

Homicide detectives were investigating but police hadn't reported laying any charges by press time last night.

Friends of Marlon Cutknife say a night of drinking and partying at a friend's northside apartment turned deadly after two young males called the group of boys out for a fight around 2:30 a.m.

A brawl ensued, with several teenage boys fighting on the front lawn of the Victoria Arms apartment block at 14624 72 St., said one of the boys caught in the melee.

"I never thought I'd lose a friend this way," said Joey Bigcharles, 17, tearing up as he revisited the scene yesterday afternoon.

After warding off one attacker by raising a bat he had grabbed from the suite, Bigcharles thought the fight was over.

"He (the instigator) backed off, then he and his friend came back, one with a bat, one with a sword," Bigcharles added.

Mayhem followed. Witnesses said as many as 20 got involved.

Luis Zevallos, 17, ran down from a nearby apartment after hearing the fight brewing, hiding behind a fence and watching the guys go at it.

He said he saw the flashes of swinging bats, heard a bottle smash and heard a woman say she had it all on videotape.

"I was overwhelmed. I didn't even know what to say," said Zevallos.

Bigcharles said he remembers seeing the sword-wielding fighter cut another friend's arm.

"I saw the blood coming out of his arm, so I went at (the attacker)," he said.

"As soon as I went at him, the other kid came from behind and hit me on the elbow with another bat," said Bigcharles.

He also took a sword slice to the elbow, leaving him with a long red wound and bruising yesterday.

The slice would have been worse had he not been wearing a few layers of clothing, he said.

The scrap lasted several minutes before the teens scrambled when someone said cops were coming.

But when Bigcharles and friends returned to the apartment, they noticed one friend was missing.

Fifteeen-year-old Leland, one of the friends who didn't want his last name published, set out to find Cutknife.

Leland discovered him bleeding in the apartment's stairwell, a two-inch wide hole in his chest.

"It was just like a hole in his stomach," he said. "This is messed up."

Police were called to the scene at 2:40 a.m.

Cutknife was rushed to hospital and died there.

Police have not confirmed what weapons they have found, or whether they've got video footage from a camera-wielding woman.

Bigcharles said the attackers have held a jealous grudge against him over a girl he started dating last year.

He admits that he and his friends lived a life of crime in the past few years.

"We always just jumped people, robbed people ... it turned into a habit," he said. "Something violent happened in my life almost every day."

Still, he's shocked and saddened by losing a friend to such violence.

"He didn't deserve this," he said. "I want payback, but that will just cause more people to get hurt."

"the brawl that involved as many as 20 combatants was over an ex-girlfriend."

There's word for that kind of girlfriend.

you know what? this event really isn't about some girlfriend... or anything that halfway-normal folks might be able to suss out.

this is about a culture of violence... a culture that abhors rules, common sense and personal responsibility.

in short... it's about mass stupidity.

my guess is this idiot isn't the first of their friends who spectacularly and violently flamed out... and he certainly won't be the last.

These jerks should be flamed out a bit quicker, it would give people just walking down the street a break.

well, there are a lot of different theories about that.

in ontario, dalton mcslippery thinks we should build more basketball courts.

go figure.
