*"anon says... waynes world"i wondered if the reference was gonna be too obscure.*
Pioneer Platoon guys are so stylish! And that's nice of them considering they're the last people many Taliban ever see!
The Taliban have never seen a bearded Pioneer Infantryman. That picture is from the Kosovo mission and it's a UK Warrior AIFV in the background not a LAV. The Canadian Infantry gave up its pioneers several years ago and the task went to the Combat Engineers as a manpower saving exercise.Too bad. Pioneers were very cool. It was always the neat job to get as a junior officer and it was always a laugh to see which new pioneer platoon commander could grow a beard and who could not. None of my peers every had a beard to match the two soldiers in the picture.
*yup, kosovo.1 RCR, i believe... with a brit tank from their qrf.*
an AIFV actually -Armoured Infantry Fighting Vehicle. And those are two of the finest NCOs and excellent pioneers from 1 RCR.I was footage from that incident at the bridge that prompted outrage from the ignorant, politicians, veterans (mostly navy I think) and media, about the scruffy untrimmed look of the beards! (there is a history behind an untrimmed beard that suggests it is allowed by royal decree...) anyway....The comments of how disgusted the righteous were about the beards promted the spinless to issue orders that henceforth all pioneer beards should be trimmed, and eventually they said to shave them all off. Quite allot about such a good picture.
In WWII you could have a full, but well trimmed, beard in the Navy. You couldn't have just a mustache though. It was said to have tickled the Queen's nose once when she danced with a mustachioed officer.
