A man pleaded guilty to second-degree murder today in the shooting death of 15-year-old Jane Creba on a downtown Toronto street crowded with Boxing Day shoppers four years ago.

Jeremiah Valentine, 27, was charged after a gunfight erupted on Yonge Street on Dec. 26, 2005.

Mr. Valentine instead chose to avoid trial by entering a guilty plea before Mr. Justice John McMahon of the Ontario Superior Court.

The amnesty decree, known as the National Reconciliation Ordinance, was introduced in October 2007 by then-President Pervez Musharraf as a part of a deal -- brokered by the U.S. and Britain -- which allowed former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto to return from exile for elections.

The decree released thousands of politicians and bureaucrats from charges of graft and other offenses.

And truthfully, worldwide... Pakistan isn't even on the top ten offenders list. And, to its credit, the Pakistani court system has actually risen up struck down this egregiously self-serving law.

The fact is, if Canada pulled back financial aid from every country that was riddled with graft, corruption & human rights abuses... we'd be well on our way to reducing our own national debt.

That, of course, is not how we operate. We, as Canadians, do what we can to effect positive change and swallow back the bile... knowing that the governments of most, if not all of these countries use most, if not all of our aid money to line their own pockets. In Afghanistan, we've gone further... committing the lives of our brave soldiers... to try turn a savage medieval theocracy into a semblance of a functional democratic state.

It's interesting though, how Iffy and Jacko are simply all about the corruption in Afghanistan... and strangely silent about the rest of the third world welfare recipients.

About $70,000 worth of marijuana and cocaine was allegedly found in the rented Yorkville house Mr. Kenk shared with classical pianist Jeanie Chung, who also faced drug charges. Those charges were dropped as part of today's plea bargain.

Another Hogtown Homicide

The murder of a 62-year-old woman is just the latest in a series of violent incidences to befall the seventh floor of a Dundas St. W. and Scarlett Rd. apartment building.

Antonia Catherine Zammit was found dead early this morning in her seventh-floor unit at 3725 Dundas St. W.

Directly across the hall is where 14-year-old Adrian Johnston lived with his mom until he was shot and killed in May. And just this Friday, a shooting just down the hall left a bullet hole in the door frame of the garbage room.

A man said to be Zammit's son, John Boukhalfa, 26, was investigated by police just before midnight Sunday in the Lakeshore Blvd. W. and Windermere Ave. area.

A 28-year-old man was shot to death in northwest Toronto on Wednesday.

Toronto Police were called to a bar on Wilson Ave. just north of Hwy. 401 around 3 a.m. and found a wounded man in the bar area of a tavern. He was rushed to hospital and was last reported in serious condition.

A second man, who'd suffered obvious gunshots, was found sprawled on the parking lot outside the rear of the tavern and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The death is the city's 59th homicide of the year and the fourth in less than a week.

One of the stranger things I've seen advertised on television lately is an eyelash brush with... and I swear I'm not making this up... a built-in motor. Apparently the motor vibrates the brush and this purportedly results in, well... something extraordinary.

I'm thinking this must actually be some sort of ditz detector... which alerts the cosmo-bots at the face-spackle counter to the presence of borderline morons... who will buy into pretty much anything some cutting edge fashionista stoner might dream up.

And who exactly are the folks who can rhyme off the personal experiences and vital statistics of all the bimbos getting boinked by professional athletes? I mean... besides Lloyd Robertson?

Could we possibly dumb life down any more than this?

-- TORONTO -- A 33-year-old man facing second-degree murder charges was arrested last night following the brutal death of a young Toronto mother this weekend.

Police had issued a Canada-wide warrant Sunday for Levi Samuel Aggek after the body of Spring Phillips, 26, was found in her East End apartment the previous afternoon.

Ms. Phillips had offered Mr. Aggek a place to sleep Saturday night, police said. He has spent much of his time sleeping in shelters since arriving in the city two to three months ago from the East Coast.

Seconds after the exchange of words, one of the three pulled out a handgun and opened fire.

One man was shot dead and three wounded when gunfire erupted in the stairwell of a highrise in northwest Toronto late Thursday.

Toronto Police said the shootings occurred in the 15th-floor stairwell of a building on Falstaff Ave., in the Jane St.-Hwy. 401 area, shortly before midnight.

Two other gunshot victims were found collapsed on the parking lot of a nearby plaza while a fourth walked into a hospital. They were taken to hospital in serious condition.

A fourth wounded man walked to hospital and is also in serious condition.

Nineteen-year-old Aeon Grant was taken to hospital just before midnight on Thursday with injuries stemming from a gunshot wound. He died as a result of the injuries on Friday.
