Prez McDreamy still softpedalling...

...slaughter in Iran...

Administration officials are reiterating their call for a fair and non-violent resolution of the Iranian election conflict.

We think it is very important that if this is going to be an issue for the Iranians to decide, then all the voices should be heard -- that the process should be fair and that the people should be allowed to express their opinions.
Curiously, the Obama folks are strangely silent on gunning down teenage girls.
State Department Spokesman Ian Kelly declined under questioning to say whether the administration might be reconsidering its policy of seeking dialogue with Tehran on Iran's nuclear program and other issues.

"Like it or not, the only reason this revolution even got off the ground is because "Prez McDreamy" made it impossible for the theocracy to credibly claim the US is going to attack."

Or maybe it had something to do with the promise of two emerging democratic societies sandwiching the theocratic dictatorship? Or the elimination of a beligerent historical enemy next door, allowing people to reflect more on domestic matters?

Is it just coincidence that this is pretty much exactly the intended endgame of Bush's Iraq strategy?

Iranians revolting because of Obama's willingness to work with the regime shooting them? Ridiculous.

The more I hear O'Dreamy speak on economic matters the more ignorant I realize he is. (just like CC).

However to give him credit (or to give credit to the telepromter) he did condemn the shooting of innocents, and did describe the US being appalled by the maiming and killing of citizens including that particular girl. In may ways no different from Reagan's speech about the Polish atrocities in teh 1980s.

At the end of the day O'Dreamy's attitude has no bearing on changing Iranian opinion. Bush's annilation of the Iraqi regime and setting up a democracy may have helped. However the biggest change is caused by both highly educated young people living in selected areas of Iran as well as their ability to access the internet and media so as to realize the benefits of the western world. Every Iranian I have met who comes here for a different life specifically has come to escape the third world medieval mentality of Islamic Theocracy, even if they retain their Islamic beliefs. These professionals I meet are young, intelligent, well education and with tons of promise and a love of freedom to choose.

If we want to help change things there we simply need to keep emphasizing and practicing the examples of the "classical" liberal ideals of western society, small government and respect of personal freedom and property rights.

Also remember that the Mousavi guy they are supporting does have his own skeletons. He is not some perfect westernized ideal. its only when compared to Alla-dinner-jacket that he looks so enlightened.

(perhaps it is only because Obama McDreamy doesn't have even close to the moral suasion that a great like Reagan had, that his words sound so weak.)

unfortunately... a very familiar scenario in this part of the world.

sometimes, i guess, you do what you can... and cross your fingers.

There will be no stopping the revolution, the young Iranians have access to information on what is going on in the rest of the world.

Basically they are saying to themselves, fuck you allah and the flying horse you rode in on. No more old mad mullahs are going to calling the shots for the Iranian youth.

Nonsensical rules and regulations of islam put in place to oppress, just don't cut it amongst the Iranian youth.
