BREAKING: Officer convicted of murder...

Mohamed Noor, a former Somalian refugee, shot Justine Ruszczyk Damond as she approached his patrol car to report a possible rape behind her Minneapolis home on 15 July 2017. He was handcuffed and taken into custody immediately upon being convicted by a jury on Tuesday of third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

Noor said he believed there was an imminent threat after he heard a loud bang and saw Ms Damond with her right arm raised. Prosecutors questioned whether the loud bang was real, pointing out that neither Noor nor his partner initially mentioned anything at the scene about hearing such a noise.

Ms Damond's fingerprints were not found on the squad car.

A former Minneapolis police officer, Mohamed Noor, on trial in the fatal shooting of an unarmed woman testified Thursday that he saw fear in his partner’s eyes, then saw a woman in a pink shirt with blond hair appear at the partner’s window and raise her right arm before he fired his gun “to stop the threat.”

Justine Ruszczyk Damond, had called 911 minutes earlier to report a possible sexual assault behind her home, and was shot as she approached Noor’s squad car after he and his partner had rolled down her alley looking for evidence of a woman in distress.

Hmmm... kind of sounds to me like they found her.

Noor refused to talk to investigators after the July 2017 shooting.

One last note... the officers were wearing body-cams, but they were both turned off.

“As far as we have come, I’ve lost confidence in Police Chief Janeé Harteau’s ability to lead us further — and from the many conversations I’ve had with people around our city, especially this week, it is clear that she has lost the confidence of the people of Minneapolis as well.”

The family of Damond’s killer declared his innocence, saying Mohammed Noor had mistakenly shot her dead.

“We feel so bad about this, we are traumatised ourselves. It’s so unfortunate.”

What made Justine Damond such a threat?

"When an unarmed Justine Ruszczyk Damond — dressed in a pink T-shirt with koalas on it, pyjama pants, carrying a glittery gold iPhone — walked barefoot towards the patrol car to meet police, Mohamed Noor shot her in the abdomen at point blank range."

Note that Noor refused to talk to Police investigators about what happened that night and only apologised to the family AFTER he was found guilty.

Lawyers for Noor, who was fired after being charged in the case and has never talked to investigators about what happened, argue that he used reasonable force to defend himself and his partner from a perceived threat.

An ill-conceived strategy that earned Mr Noor a 12 year vacation at the Gray Bar Motel. Maybe he should've stayed in the old country and been a pirate.

And then there's this...

Protesters from the Somali-American community held placards, calling the ruling unjust and labelling the case “identity politics”. Mohamed Noor’s brother Abass Noor has also slammed the “racist and inequitable” US justice system.

Remind me, please, once again, about the "warlord certified" justice system in sunny, pastoral Somalia.

The Minnesota Police Dept. has reported that Lesly Vera, a native of Somalia, was sworn in on Thursday as the department’s first non-citizen officer. Vera was seen at the swearing-in ceremony wearing a hijab over her head as she took the oath of office and received her badge.

Justine's loved ones said she called 911 after hearing what she thought was a sexual assault in the alley. Moments later, a responding officer, Mohamed Noor, shot and killed her from inside his squad car.

WCCO also learned that when she approached the squad car, Officer Noor, the first Somali-American officer to work in Minneapolis’ 5th precinct reached across his partner in the driver’s seat, then shot and killed Damond.

Witness the perils of affirmative action...

Thirty year old Noor had joined the department in March 2015. Before that, he worked in property management.

A report via CBS cited Officer Mohammed Noor’s attorney saying the policeman’s weapon discharging multiple gunfire led to the death of the woman.

Both officers had body cameras but they weren’t turned on.

I'm guessing Black Lives Matter Minnesota was not available for comment.

A September 2015 report of the House Homeland Security Committee task force on combating terrorist and foreign-fighter travel revealed that Minnesota led all states in contributing foreign fighters to ISIS.
