OTTAWA • Prime Minister Justin Trudeau blamed the provinces Friday for slow action on his pledge to let cities like Toronto ban handguns, but did not say why his government has not yet given municipalities across Canada any of the $250 million to fight gun violence that he promised during the 2019 election.

Mary-Liz Power, a spokesperson for Public Safety Minister Bill Blair, declined to disclose why this money has not flowed.

“We invite the prime minister to explain how targeting legal firearms owners will help take illegal firearms off our streets and protect our communities from criminals,” said Stephen Warner, a spokesperson for Ontario Solicitor General Sylvia Jones.
Sadly, we're not even allowed to have that conversation...
“I think that kind of talk about sort of, you know, where this all arises from, or sort of who’s to blame, is not very constructive,” Toronto Mayor John Tory told reporters in Nathan Phillips Square.
