How many under-employed bureaucrats and publicity-hungry politicians can dance on the head of a 50 million dollar Royal Commission? The NDP aims to find out.

The commissioners produced 10 recommendations in its report, including a call for the creation of a "commemoration fund," that would help families remember their lost loved ones.

It also endorsed the idea of providing compensation to the families of a missing or murdered women through the creation of a "healing fund."

Remember, this doesn't apply to non-aboriginal persons, or apparently even aboriginal men, who are murdered in far greater numbers than their female counterparts.

Note also that the Truth and Reconciliation Commission had five years to carry out its work... and they'll be asking for an extension.

Of course, they've blown through a $60-million budget and a five-year mandate which was later extended for an additional year.

Nice work if you can get it.

OTTAWA -- Immigration to Canada is set to increase over the next three years to 340,000 people a year by 2020 under the federal Liberal government's new multi-year approach to admissions planning.

The immigration plan released Wednesday will see immigration levels climb from 300,000 people a year this year to 310,000 in 2018 and 330,000 in 2019.

I get that aboriginal people in Canada are way more likely to be murdered, than, for example, the rest of epidermally privileged us.

What I'm curious to know is, what if the killer isn't actually that ol' racist Colonel Mustard with his Hudson's Bay blankets in the gender-specific bathroom?

According to party-poopers like StatsCan and the RCMP, there's a few other things to be considered here.

"The agency also examined the identities of those accused of homicide. It found almost a third of people accused of [homicide] last year were aboriginal. The rate of aboriginal people accused was 10 times higher than the rate for non-indigenous people. By gender, aboriginal people accounted for 30 per cent of men accused of homicide and 51 per cent of accused women."

While our newly-minted APEC hottie may not have packed a contingency parachute, it seems the national police service has already implemented their own "Plan B" to deal with any further possible disturbances to "The Force"...

The twins father, Anthony Larmond said he blames the arrests on Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s “crusade against ISIS and turning our country into a prison state.

“It’s a sad day for freedom when our citizens can be jailed for a belief.”

Larmond is currently at a Toronto halfway house finishing a six-year sentence for armed robbery.

Now, almost a year after the killing of Teresa Robinson, 11, in a remote northern Manitoba First Nation community and under pressure to solve the case, RCMP investigators are trying to gather DNA samples from about 2,000 local men and boys.

The DNA sweep comes as Ottawa is gathering feedback on the design and scope of a national inquiry into the 1,200 indigenous women and girls who have been murdered or went missing in the past 30 years.

Aboriginal women make up only four per cent of Canada’s female population, but accounted for 16 per cent of all women murdered in 1980-2012.

Yeah, Justin, you call that "missing aboriginal women" enquiry. I'm thinking it just might not give you the very specific answer you're looking for.

Parallel to the findings of the 2014 Overview in which most homicide victims had a previous relationship with the offender, the 2013 and 2014 RCMP data reveals that the offender was known to the victim in 100% of the solved homicides of Aboriginal women in RCMP jurisdictions, and in 93% of cases of solved homicides of non-Aboriginal women.

Violence within family relationships is a key factor in homicides of women, and has prompted the RCMP to focus intervention and prevention efforts on familial and spousal violence.

The deceased has been identified as Brent Mancheese, 32, of Toronto. Chelsey Arkarakas, 24, of Mississauga, was charged with Second Degree Murder.

Sapers pointed to statistics that show the total number of people incarcerated in federal institutions went down by 12 per cent between 1996 and 2004. But the number of native inmates increased 21 percent in the same period.

The Liard First Nation had been threatened with court action by the previous Conservative government for violating the 'First Nations Financial Transparency Act', but Liberal minister of Indigenous and Northern Affairs Carolyn Bennett announced in December that the new government was "suspending any court actions against First Nations who have not complied with the act."
