"Both victims are believed to be of Somali descent, bringing to six the number of Somali men who've died as a result of gun violence since the start of June 2012."

According to police, 20 casings were recovered from the scene and they believe there are multiple shooters.

A man believed to be in his 50s has died in hospital after a daylight stabbing on Weston Road, north of Lawrence Avenue. Police said they are looking for one suspect who fled in a red sport utility vehicle.

He is described as a [insert speculation here] in his late 20s or early 30s, five-foot-eleven, slim build and long curly hair. He was wearing all black clothing and a black toque.

UPDATE: Slain man 54th murder victim...

David Blacquiere, 54, a father of four from Angus stabbed to death Tuesday morning in Toronto’s northwest end may have been in the wrong place at the wrong time, police say.

Police say Blacquiere’s attacker fled the scene with the help of another man. Demetrius McFarquhar, 24, of Toronto is wanted for accessory after the fact to murder, attempting to obstruct justice and failure to comply with recognizance.

Fourteen teenaged boys have been charged with a rash of "wolf-pack" swarmings in which victims were surrounded and robbed on main streets and in parks and subway stations.

The robberies, which have been going on since mid-July, were committed by members of a new street gang called Grown Man Business, Toronto Police Det. Colin Greenaway said yesterday.

"As consultations with teachers continued, it became apparent that safe-school transfers were a significant issue at C.W. Jefferys, which receives more safe-school transfers than it sends out to other schools," says the panel's report, released yesterday.

Jefferys last year took in 11 safe-school transfers, and sent out six; Westview took in 13, but sent out 21. Safe-school transfers are used to move students involved in serious or criminal incidents.

"Crime and victimization are serious problems for students at C.W. Jefferys, but sadly, these problems do not appear isolated within C.W. Jefferys or even within other schools in the `Jane-Finch' community."

A 28-year-old man was shot to death in northwest Toronto on Wednesday.

Toronto Police were called to a bar on Wilson Ave. just north of Hwy. 401 around 3 a.m. and found a wounded man in the bar area of a tavern. He was rushed to hospital and was last reported in serious condition.

A second man, who'd suffered obvious gunshots, was found sprawled on the parking lot outside the rear of the tavern and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The death is the city's 59th homicide of the year and the fourth in less than a week.

A 17-year-old has been charged with murder in the shooting death of 46-year-old Alexis Charles outside a party in North York last summer. Investigators said at the time that there was a large party going on and at least 100 people were nearby when shots rang out.

Two boys are facing a raft of charges after allegedly carjacking a man at gunpoint at York University last month, leaving the car behind because they could not use a manual transmission.

The boys, aged 15 and 17, were arrested shortly thereafter.

-- TORONTO -- While police wouldn't confirm the victims' identities pending autopsies on Monday, reports say Diane Simpson, 35, her eight-year-old daughter and four-year-old son died early Saturday in the three-alarm blaze in a townhouse in the northwest part of the city.

This was not the first tragic incident for the family. The father of the four-year-old boy who died, Leroy Whittaker, 46, was shot in the head and killed by a bullet that flew through his apartment door in a gang-style murder in July 2005. No arrests were ever made in his slaying.

This is a very unlucky place.

UPDATE: Looking like self-inflicted injury

Who hasn't pulled the batteries out of a smoke detector after burning something in the oven? The difference here... apparently... is that this alarm was never hooked back up.

Mr. Fisher says the mounting bracket and the wiring for the smoke detector on the main floor were there but the unit itself had been removed.

He says the Toronto Housing Authority had inspected that townhouse in February 2006 and there was a working smoke alarm then.

It's not known who removed it.

Well... it's really not that much of a reach... but I guess nobody wants to speak ill of the dead.

Lotta MSM argle-bargle about proposed mandatory installation of sprinkler systems in people's homes... but very little talk about the fact that the hardwired detector on the main floor (which would have tripped the other units in the house)... had been removed.

And not just in this one unit.

Since the three-alarm blaze, fire crews checked other units in the townhouse complex to ensure their alarms were working. They found about eight units also had their alarms deactivated.

"A 20-year-old man and a 19-year-old pregnant woman are recovering after being shot while inside an Etobicoke apartment early Tuesday. Emergency crews were called to 2757 Kipling Ave., a highrise apartment building located south of Steeles Avenue, for a shooting at 1:22 a.m. July 4."

There is a vague description of the shooter, who wore dark clothing.

Seraphin McKenzie, 32, Tola Paul, 32, and Edsel Augustin, 29, all of Toronto, were arrested at 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 6. They were each charged with two counts of attempted murder and several gun offences.

The suspects and victims were known to each other, police said.

So much for that "vague description of the shooter" thing.
