Like Federal, like Provincial
Apparently... just like their big brothers in Ottawa... the McGuinty Liberals believe... "there is no problem so big... it cannot be run away from."
-- BRANTFORD -- Tension is mounting over unresolved Six Nations land claims, as native activists continued Tuesday to keep construction workers off the site of a hotel being built in Brantford. So where is Dalton, or more importantly Aboriginal Affairs Minister Michael Bryant?
A site supervisor and one worker arrived in the early morning rain Tuesday at the site of the $10.5-million Hampton Inn Hotel and an adjoining plaza in the early stages of construction at Oak Park and Fen Ridge roads, just south of Highway 403.
They found a group of native activists led by Floyd and Ruby Montour blocking the entrance with vehicles and flags, just as they have for the past few days.
The issue also found its way into the Ontario legislature, where Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett attempted to corner Aboriginal Affairs Minister Michael Bryant over native protests in Brantford blocking development.Call this one... "No answer... no funeral."
"Minister, your government tells developers not to pay the fees and then tells them they're on their own," Barrett said in the legislature. "When will you actually take action to stop this extortion?"
Bryant did not answer the question.

I would like to hear from the people who voted Liberal this past election.
What do they think about all this?
I voted for him!! The first time I voted for him was because Ernie Eves was a waffling dithering poor selection as a leader...sorry..but its just way he looked. And then, I'm sorry but, John Tory...???
So...I voted Liberal McGuinty again. I've heard Dalton speak and I thought he was the best of the bunch. But oh my freakin god has he disappointed. Honestly, I'm not a Lib/Con partisan. I'm a big Harper supporter because he gives voters a reason to either vote for him or hate him, but come on Dalton..your quickly becoming a national disgrace. Leaders act Dalton..its not an easy job being a Premier or a Prime Minister, 60% of the population will probably dislike you, but you wanted it now start acting like one. There..hows that? billg
He's only disappointing you now? Jeepers before the last election we knew he was a liar, He hit us with a huge tax increase, Stranded parents of autistic kids up the river, had let Caledonia fester for a year and a half. You could have run a dog as A leader of another party and I would have voted for it. At least when a dog wags his tail and or growls you know he means it. Smug smarmy Dalton? Can't be depended upon for anything that comes out his mouth.
People who voted for Dalton sure are slooooooooow learners.
billg...please stay anon ...for your sake. Thanks for your honesty...were you trying to convince us or yourself?
I hate to admit this one:
I was at the nomination that hoisted Eves into the prov scene in the early '80s...my intro to politics. A busload of neighbours and booze...some quick membership cards and they told us how to vote. It was a blast! He won by 13 votes...the # of us on the bus!
Harris was great, Eves bombed.
We all have our little secrets, eh?
bluetech
Thats not a fair comment. Why does the 905 area always vote Lib or NDP? Are they slooooow learners too? The best candidate wins elections, its that simple. To say otherwise is insulting. Gore couldnt beat Bush, the Left has all kinds of excuses as to why, but, its really simple, the majority of voters didnt want him. How John Tory buggered up the last election is mind boggling, but, if your not bright enough to beat an easily beatable candidate then you probably shouldnt be premier or PM. billg
Thanks for the advice bluetech, but, joanne asked the question and I answered, like it or not, and, maybe after getting swamped again some Provincial Conservatives should start to listen. billg

honest, heartfelt answers always appreciated here, billg.
loony lockstep is always a little scary.
*
looney lockstep helped get the Federal Libs over 90 seats in the last election when they should have been kicked in the teeth for letting bags of cash get handed out under they're watch. Sorry, but, I helped vote in Mulroney and I helped banish his party for getting fat and lazy. Liked Chretien and Paul Martin, liked the way they handled the economy, and, the PC's and the Reform couldnt get their act together enough to warrant support. I was a huge Mike Harris fan and when Dalton's done we'll probably need him or someone like him to clean the mess up...again. But what burns my ass is the number of Liberals who, when their party is in disarray, when they deserve to be spanked and given a time out, when they need to be purged by they're own...they just wont do it.
Federal Liberals..your in this mess because you refuse to give your vote to anyone else, and in doing so you dont allow your party to heal or get better. Regardless of what partisans think or feel, Canada is a much greater country when the two major political party's are strong and effective.
And...thats my rant for the month.

How can we expect anything from this current government? I am a fellow blogger and this is the story I wrote a few days ago.

Haldimand "We Demand More Than "8" Days"
Toby regularly sends me his updates and news releases. Well this one was quite interesting. In the last "10" months the Ontario Legislature has only sat for "8" days!
I find myself speechless, what I mean is that I find this unbelievable, maybe I find this unacceptable, oh hell this is just not the way our Government should run! This is the discussion period, the place where votes are taken, the place where issues are dealt with, the place where your member of Parliament speaks on behalf of their constituents. How is anything getting done in this Province if they are not in the Legislature?
As I recall last summer's session was cut short because of the election being held in the fall, so what has Premier McGuinty's excuse been since then, "8" days, give me a break. So what has the McGuinty government accomplished for you in the last "10" months....oh a Family Holiday in February.........well I have gone blank I can't think of anything else. Well I guess that's just about all that can be accomplished in "8" days!
McGuinty promised the people of Ontario a government that is "Transparent and Accountable". How can any government be accountable to the people when they are not doing their jobs. Soon it will be Spring and the Legislature will be going for their summer break, to not return until fall. It will be interesting to see if this current government can pull off maybe a "month" in the "Legislature"! Any bets?
Here is Toby Barrett's news release;
Good afternoon, Toby here:
Following is a news release I sent out to my colleagues and to members of the media late yesterday afternoon. I am anxious to return to Queen’s Park on Monday to keep the land dispute at the forefront in the Ontario Legislature. Have a good weekend.

Time to get back to Question Period
Simcoe – Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett is eager to get back to Queen’s Park and Question Period this coming Monday.
“The Ontario Legislature has only sat eight days over the course of the past 10 months,” Barrett said. “There are many issues from across this province that have been left unaddressed because Dalton McGuinty has strayed from the parliamentary calendar.
“The people of Caledonia are still living in limbo due to the on-going land dispute and tobacco farmers are still struggling to pay the bills while waiting for a hand up from government,” Barrett said. “The Ontario Legislature is the only place to hold the government accountable in a public venue on these types of matters.”
The issues across the province are the same today as they are 10 months ago, according to Barrett. He added that instead of addressing those issues, McGuinty and gang are concerning themselves with things that should not be tinkered with, such as the Lord’s Prayer.
“The Lord’s Prayer needs to stay put and this government needs to pull up its socks and talk about things like the economy,” Barrett said.
Barrett is asking constituents to call his office with suggestions or advice for him as he heads back to Queen’s Park. His office can be reached at 519-428-0446 or 1-800-903-8629.
