A question for Michael Bryant
Let's put aside, for a moment, the thorny matter of whether our elected officials should be negotiating with people... who continue to crap all over the law of the land.
I just wanna know, how many MRI machines could you buy with 50 million dollars?
The two-year-old land dispute in Caledonia has so far cost Ontarians $50 million. And that cost will continue to rise until a settlement is reached. And guess what? Just like those pesky human rights commissions... you, the taxpayer... have to foot the bill for the instigators.
A report suggests most of that money - $35 million - has come from the price of putting police officers at the scene 24/7 to provide security.
Ontario taxpayers are also footing the bill for the Six Nations negotiating team, pegged at $500,000. Aboriginal Affairs Minister Michael Bryant assures the cost of negotiation still runs below what litigation would.Thank you... oh wonderful McGuinty.
"The cost of policing is the cost of keeping the peace."

RELATED: No wonder "they're encouraged"
-- TORONTO -- Assembly of First Nations Chief Phil Fontaine says he's optimistic Ontario will be able to resolve a dispute between an exploration company and a remote Northern Ontario First Nation whose leaders were recently jailed.*
Mr. Fontaine says he was “encouraged” by a recent talk with Aboriginal Affairs Minister Michael Bryant in which they discussed resource revenue sharing and developing a framework for consultation.

At .14mm per $20 bill, $50 million would make a stack of $20s 350 metres (1148 feet, 3 1/2 inches) tall; but who cares, it's not their money anyway, right?

I think it is past time to grow a pair and bring back law and order to the good people of Caledonia. I support our troops in Afstan, however I think they are needed at home more.

why have laws at all.. if you're not going to enforce them?

A crack sniper team, a couple of fire dept. pumper trucks and some fire hose. On a particularly COLD day, a little 'shower' on the protesters from a stream of high pressure water. If the protesters think that a return volley of gunfire might help them out.....that's where the SWAT team comes in. First sight of a rife, and Dudley George has company in the spirit world.
Water hoses are not lethal force, but they would get the job done. Hit 'em from all 4 sides and arrest them when they surrender. If they chose to up the anti, then they will pay the price.
Time to take back our country from ANYBODY that thinks they are a law unto themselves. Nobody needs to be killed, but unless you are willing to show you will use deadly force in self defence, your threats are not taken seriously. The Native protesters would have a bad P.R. battle if they shot a volunteer fireman because he sprayed them with water. In airport fire truc has that really neat water cannon on the roof too....maybe they could fill the tank with something slightly more unpleasant than just water? Maybe a dye so they can be rounded up afterwards.
Just a thought.
