The 10-year lease deal city officials quietly signed for another shelter in already-beleaguered Cabbagetown is three times higher than the actual value of the property. It will cost $6-million to rent the 12,754-square-foot building at 233 Carlton St., just west of Parliament. The city is also planning to spend $3.7-million to renovate the property.
Documents obtained by the Sun show that the actual property was last listed in 2003 for $2.1-million, never sold and the listing terminated.
I can only imagine what this game of musical shelters will end up costing taxpayers in the end.
