-- CALGARY -- Lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender people — especially in Alberta — should have a special federal minister to defend their rights, says one Quebec NDP MP.

"Especially in Alberta" WTF? How about a R.N, G.O., T.P, R.P, H.F.,E.S., Federal Minister.
You know somebody to speak for the Red Neck, Gun Ownin', Tax Payin',Rig Pig, Hetro' Family, English Speaking kinda people.
Get's kinda lonely out here just workin' paying taxes, sendin' all that dirty "Tar Sands" money to Quebec.
If NDP MP Dany Morin wants to defend a down trodden group that is routinely discriminated against in Quebec and everywhere else in Canada when it comes to Federal jobs , health care, education etc. How about a :Special Minister to represent English speakers in Quebec?
Perhaps a quota making sure Anglos are given priority in hiring in Quebec?
Seems to me we are underrepresented in Civil Service jobs in Quebec.
Hell even "My" language is small on signs in Quebec.
Cheers Bubba

I think we need a minister to defend us from seeing all those idiots in their birthday suits parading around Canada. If they were so concerned for their safety wouldn't they stay hidden instead of flaunting themselves. Will this ndp/bloc mp present a private members bill, and expect the govt to support it. lol

"maryt says... we need a minister to defend us from seeing all those idiots in their birthday suits"

here's a thought... try getting together with a group of your friends on a busy downtown street... drop trou and start jumping around.

see how long it takes for the local constabulary to club your naked ass to the pavement.

one people... one law.

of course, you might get a different answer if you ask the current leader of the ndp.

"one people.. one law"

Hear hear. But as long as there exists a culture of 'group rights' entrenchment nothing will change. If we continue accept a "minister for the status of women", the dippers have a valid point.

Status of women.. I wonder if that's the ministry responsible for sex change operation statistics?

Jack Layton hasn't even been buried yet and already the nutbars from Quebec are spouting ridiculous nonsense.
Tell you what Quebec, since you're so anxious to tell Albertans how to run their province, how about you give us back the eight billion we contribute toward equalization and we'll let you have this minister. We'll ignore him, but you can have him.
